The spring summer 2009 collection created by Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent revolves around the t-shirt as an essential, iconic piece. Pilati remakes the t-shirt with all the elegance of Yves Saint Laurent.

Pilati's suits experiment with proportions, fluidity and layers using cardigans. The brand's folk elegance is evident in his jacket suits with oversize trousers which hide extra-long t-shirts.

An ethnic style is obvious too, and it blends with an army look in a sombre colour palette.

The resulting collection is glamorous, elegant, stylish, contemporary and full of attitude.

Kanye Talks Rihanna & Why She's A Fashion Icon

In a recent interview with Hypebeast, Kanye spoke on Rihanna and what makes her the 'hottest chick in the fashion game' right now.
She’s kind of like a genius because regardless of how many stylists she has, I know she does it on her own. That’s an innate talent, having style like that. It’s kind of like the way people play sport, some people just hit the shoots into the net better. Yeah. Fashion is a sport in a way.

Now that was a huge assessment for Kanye to make especially considering Rihanna's previous fashion history. I want to hear from the YGT readers, cast your vote below on Kanye's assessment or feel free to hit up the comments section below.

SUMMERTIME

On yesterday, some colleagues and I met at the pool to celebrate the end of Summer Session I. As I saw directly with Session I, it's no joke cramming 4 months worth of work in 5 weeks. So to celebrate the arrival of good grades and closure of late, summer classes we enjoyed the leisurely act of doing nothing. We're usually on the move, making moves but, I've come to realize sometimes you just have to sit back and kick back. What's the point of hustling if you don't enjoy the benefits from time to time?

You need more evidence or do I have you convinced? I think I answered that myself.

Quote Of The Day: Mr. West

Combs have been on the scene ever since humans had hair on his head. Which is quite sometime? The date perhaps goes beyond the time of the old stone age. Man being man and not a lion would not be content to let his mane run wild and free. So he had to find some ways to tame it. First on the list of combing operations must have been the use of fingers. So in a way the fingers are the first combs of history. Today, combs are universal and no corner of the globe is without it.

Rihanna Who???

Recently the New York Post blog wrote a very inaccurate post about singer Kelis. In the post, Kelis was accused of biting Rihanna's style:

"Just like rappers sample other singers tracks, Kelis has taken it upon herself to riff on Rihanna's new peacock do. And in true remix style, she's thrown way too much at the original, totally destroying what made it work in the first place.

Kelis has had some problems of late, so it's understandable that she's distracted. What I can't comprehend is why anyone would let her out of the house rocking a BlueRazz milkshake on her head. Not cool guys, not cool."

Really?!?! Kelis biting from Rihanna?!?! I DON'T THINK SO!!!! Don't get me wrong, I love Rihanna's style but she is copy of Kelis 2-3 years ago, and if I really wanted to go there we could get into how Rihanna has sampled from Fefe Dobson all the way down to her neck tattoos.

But I digress, Kelis is the orginator of everything Rihanna is doing. Kelis was rocking the "peacock" back in 2005, and as far as that infamous asymmetrical black hair cut of Ri-Ri's peep the Kelis Was Here album and you will know who was rocking it first. Now it's fine to copy, everyone does it in the music industry, but don't call the originator an imitator know your facts before you speak.

And I'm done.

Morning Rant: In Honor of Tupac Shakur

In the Event of My Demise

In the event of my Demise
when my heart can beat no more
I Hope I Die For A Principle
or A Belief that I had Lived 4
I will die Before My Time
Because I feel the shadow's Depth
so much I wanted 2 accomplish
before I reached my Death
I have come 2 grips with the possibility
and wiped the last tear from My eyes
I Loved All who were Positive
In the event of my Demise

Tupac Shakur

Brilliant as this poem is, I often look at the slain rapper's life and question why he had to die in such a horrible and despicable way. Tupac Shakur's gift to the world extended far beyond his rap lyrics; but in an industry that barely recognizes true artistry Shakur's gift was often hidden away. The facade of Tupac Shakur the "gangsta" never seemed real to me, and as with most rapper's who act real tough and hard their intellect usually gives them away.

I realize that having a rap sheet as long as your arm or being shot 9x is considered credible to be a rapper, but why? Why do we allow these fake people to invade our ears and mind? Why do you have to put on an act to just be heard, when in the end all you wanna do is talk about your experiences and take on life? I am sick of today's rapper's. I am sick of all the flash and throw away lyrics? I am sick of the false images? But what I am sick of most is people saying hip-hop/rap is dead.

Hip-hop will never die and if you look hard, which I have, you will find the steady heart beat of hip-hop. Sometimes this beat is found in a local group, an underground artist with a small but dedicated following, or in another country. No matter what the media tries to project, never forget that hip-hop is forever and it will never fade away or die.

Summer Anthem

Summer is almost officially here!!! Time for cookouts, trips to the beach, and all the freedom summer brings. But summer could not be complete without music. Every summer an album seems to sum up my summer experience in a nutshell. Last year it was N.E.R.D's "Seeing Sounds" album, and this year the title goes to Black Eyed Peas latest album "The E.N.D."

Since I got this album last week (Thanks again Braxton), it has been on heavy rotation everywhere I go. The song that sums up my summer experience so far is track number five "I Gotta Feeling." If you have peeped B.E.P.'s Target commercials then you have heard the song. The beat and the lyrics just sum my summer mood "I gotta feeling, that tonight's gonna be a good night!"

Every time I go out and if I drive this song is played first, it pumps me up and gets me ready to go out and live it up. If you haven't heard peep the new video below.

Do you have summer anthem? What song gets you ready to go out with friends? Let me know via the comments

Drake Speaks On "The Best I Ever Had" Video Concept

“I been working with a couple people on some ideas,” he explained. “I don’t wanna say who yet, because everything isn’t confirmed yet. It should be pretty solid in the next few days. The biggest thing about that song is that a lot of women come up to me and say, ‘That’s my song, because it really makes me feel special.’ So I told the directors that were interested that I just want the visuals to coincide with that feeling. I want women to feel special when they watch the visual and say, ‘I wish that was me,’ or ‘I know that feeling.’ That’s the goal with the video — to be genuine and not sappy. Be sexy and keep it together, but still make women smile.”

The other model featured in the ad, Richard Harrison was already a professional model. According to Dao-Yi Chow, Creative Director and Vice-President of Marketing at Sean John, "They're figuring out ways to stretch our dollars and make an impact.”

Louis Vuitton's collaboration with Kanye West has got lots of media attention. Bit by bit over the past three months, we've found out all about the exclusive sneakers collection created by the famous singer for LV.

Kanye's aim was to create his perfect collection of sneakers, a collection reflecting luxury with an impeccable selection of materials and a variety of colour combinations.

Kanye West has been collaborating with Fabrizio Vitti, who is responsible for the brand's collections and is used to working with celebs - remember the shoe collection designed with Sofia Coppola? The inspiration for this particular collection was wide-ranging, but some details were influenced by David Lynch's film 'Dune'.

Today we're bringing you photos published by Knotoryus, which show the team having a brainstorming session and redesigning sketches. Now all we have to do is wait for the collection to arrive in the shops.

Morning Rant: D.C Stand Up???

Ok so this is not really a rant like the others have been, but I am starting to feel some type of way about all these shows heading to the Nation's Capital. First, there was the Real Housewives series on Bravo, now MTV has announced that their longest running show (and it shows, but that's another post) the Real World has tapped D.C. to be the next place for seven strangers to meet.

Now let me be the first to address this: No, I did not live in Washington, D.C., I am from Maryland. But as my people from the DMV know, all the fun happens in D.C. With that out the way let me get back to this rant. These shows making there way to D.C. will of course draw more attention to the city, which has already garnered enough attention due to the newest residents to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, but at what cost?
Gentrification has struck the city of D.C. hard, and with rising death tolls and violence (The Holocaust Museum, seriously???) I know that these shows will only show one side of Washington.

The Real Housewives of D.C. will focus on the Embassy, socialite, and Congressional wives and highlight all the $2,500 dinners and galas that are "supposed" to help those people around the corner (cause if you have ever been to D.C. you will know one block separates the haves from the have nots, again another post) but somehow the money never seems to show up. This I am cool with, because it's apart of the D.C. culture of Uptown, Capital Hill, and the Gold Coast (where the embassy houses are located for those that don't know). But this next show has me a little concerned.

I used to be a huge fan of MTV's the Real World, I wanted nothing more then to go on the show and meet people from all over who are driven, funny, neurotic at times (Puck), but most of all REAL!! But after the Las Vegas season, which I will admit I loved because I had very impure thoughts about Alton, the show seemed to lose it's realness. Gone were the young 20somethings coming into the "real world" and all the pressures, set backs, and good times that this transition entailed. Instead we are now treated to different type-casts: The Gay, The Ignorant White Guy/Girl, The Angry Black, The Black who acts White, The Loner, etc. This is not something I want to see in the Real World D.C.

This city is bursting with young professionals getting it done, hell I used to be one of them before I transferred to North Carolina. The 20somethings in D.C. play hard, but they work even harder. It's nothing to see corporate types mixed in with young Congressionals on any given night at Adam's Morgan, DuPont Circle, Friendship Heights, or any other trendy meeting place, bar, or lounge. When the newest members of the Real World enter their D.C. pad, I really hope that the producers of the show pick people who will show true growth and depth to highlight the growth and depth of a city that is undergoing so many changes; not just on the Hill but around the surrounding neighborhoods. I hope that the people chosen to live and tell their stories will not be ignorant drunks who only care about going out and hooking up. Instead I want a cast that will go back to the glory days of the Real World and will give us a great story where people stop being FAKE and start being REAL.

Ok rant over, let me know what you think via the comments section.

The New Mammy????

By now I hope you have all seen new Popeye's commercial featuring "Annie the Chicken Queen." Yes YGT readers, they really named her Annie the Chicken Queen. At first I really didn't think anything about this commercial, because out of all the Popeye's that I have been to I have never seen a black cook in the back making gourmet chicken for my enjoyment. So in the beginning the commercial was already no believable for I just disregarded it, but as I was watching television last night I really got into Ms. Annie.

Needless to say I was a little insulted and disgusted that racist stereotypes are still being used to sell products. Thanks to my DVR system I was able to really get into "Auntie" Annie and analyze her and here are some of the thoughts I had about her:

1. Why does she talk like that? I have been in the South going on 3 years now and I have yet to encounter anyone sassy Black woman who talks in that plantation-coonish manner. I have ran into my fair share of no nonsense southern women but with our without an accent, they don't sound like Mammy, I mean Annie.

2. Does using stereotypes, racist or not, work in the advertising world?
Apparently they do. Because when you can go into the store and still buy rice with Uncle Ben on it or get you some pancake batter from Aunt Jemima, then I guess stereotypes are not that noticeable to everyone.

3. Why is this women's name Annie the Chicken Queen?
Could she simply not be called Annie, or Annie~Head Chef, or Annie~Popeye's Franchise Owner?

These were just some of my concerns, but what do you think YGT readers? Peep the commercial below and tell me what you think.

Fall, How I Miss Thee

It hasn't fully been hot for 3 months and I'm already posting Pre-Fall pieces. Sorry, I prefer a colder based climate; Alot of people think I'm weird when I say that. But, Fall is for the Real, Fashion Connoisseurs. It's nothing like bundling up, layering and pulling out those immaculate coats that have sat in your closet all Summer. Well, Loewe's Pre-Fall 2009 Collection is exactly the look I'm planning this fall. It's chic, masculine and the lines and shapes are amazing.

Run and tell that Mother Nature!

Shoes: House Of Holland Cut-Outs

It's nothing like a shoe that's eye catching, not over bearing and that lightly pushes the boundaries. House Of Holland is giving me that with their recent Cut-Outs. I absolutely love the zipper detailing, immaculate 6-inch heel & 2 inch platform. Now, these are going to be a monster when worn but, what's the point of pleasure without pain? The looks you'd get for rocking these would be timeless.

D-E-N-I-M

Alice + Olivia
Denim Tube Top Jumpsuit - $264

Zimmermann
Sandy Dot Denim Playsuit - $322

7 For All Mankind
Strapless Mini Dress - $198

Sunner
Florent Jumpsuit - $262

I was inspired by the particular denim pieces above; they're current, fresh and perfect for the college girl on the move. I like pieces that aren't overly sexual, versatile and that allow you to play with the levels of your day/night life. They try to count Denim out but, as soon as they do that she TIPS back on the scene. Reminds me of myself!

YGT New Artist Spotlight: DJ Mensa

Ever heard that song "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life?" Well I met a DJ that will Give You Your Life!!!

YGT music lovers meet Toronto's own DJ Mensa!!!

Hailing from our neighbor's from the north, I first encountered this amazing talent at the Foreign Exchange show in Carboro, NC. Now I have been places before where a DJ can get the crowd hype, but I had never seen a DJ turn an intermission into a party. Not only did he pick up on the crowds vibe and make everyone dance, he also gave out free copies of his then current mixtape (freebies=bonus).

Now DJ Mensa is back with his latest mix "Take It All With You-The Foreign Exchange Mix" Mensa delivers again with this smooth playlist that can serve as a way to unwind after work, great music for any cocktail party, or for people like me just take you to another place while at work.

Click the link and check out the mixtape Take It All With You and let me know what you think.

Here is the cover art, just in case you want to know exactly what you are listening to.

The Force That is Spectacular

As if the first video wasn't enough, Spectacular is back with video #2. He said this one is for the haters. I'm not sure if he meant the haters or the queens. Either way, he's lateboots for this! Real talk.

"I'm back with the black boxer briefs!" <--a serious kiki.

Now, You Can Take Your Bow

I have some sad news for the Rihanna stans, word on the street is that she won't be on the next cover of Vouge due to the nude, leaked photos she supposedly took for ex boyfriend, Chris Brown. Now, there has been no set confirmation from RiRi's camp on the validity of this statement but, what I find so profound that she won't be on the cover due to some leaked photos when most people who adorn the cover usually appear nude!? Is she suffering backlash because she's a woman of color? If so, Anna we've got to do better. Where is Andre Leon when we need him?

Either way, Rihanna will find some other stint to appease the stans!

How Low Can You Go????

Apparently very low for Ciara.

CiCi has stooped to endorsement deals with Coon favorite KFC!!! Now if you buy a large Original Recipe Sandwich Combo from KFC, you get a free copy of Ciara's new album Fantasy Ride. In the words of 6th Housewife of ATL Dwight: How Dreadful!!!

CiCi loses all cool points and therefore must not pass go but instead go back to the studio...ASAP
