Word on the street is that Ashley is finally ready to say goodbye to acting and pursue her real passion, FASHION!

I'm personally excited for this move, for the mere fact Ashley's been tippin non-stop for awhile and it's about time she fully submerges her high-fashion heel into the industry. Now, Ashley isn't throwing complete shade to Mary-Kate; the two will continue working on their clothing line, The Row. Ashley will just be more hands on with the creative process and the creation of the new menswear line, set to drop later this year.

Get into this crew; aren't they fab? don't they make you want to change you fit real quick? This brings me to the post at hand; Friends! My mom has taught and instilled in me since I was young "you are the company you keep!" I've found that statement profoundly true since attending college. Automatically your peers judge/stereotype you due to who you hang with. That can be good or bad; if you hang with some on-point individuals your good but, it can work against you as well. If your rolling with some chick/dude who has a name for themselves you may get categorized with them before people even learn the real you. With that said, I've made it my day to day routine to surround myself with people who's ultimate goal is success. I don't mean lackluster individuals; I mean the type who see the gold and say "I don't want that, where's the platinum?" I've learned that the word content isn't something that correlates with my name. I aim high and expect the people around me to aim even higher. If your aren't making moves or surrounding yourself with people trying to make moves in 2009 YA WHAT? Say it aloud YGT readers "YA TIYADDDDDDDDDD(another way to say "tired")!"

Take heed and make it your mission to makes moves today, I know you can do it!

Morning Motivation

This morning I woke up to a nightmare. I, like most people, have days where I don't want to go to work. But today was different, I had no motivation or drive to want to go in to my job. Nothing moved me today, not the work I had yet to get off my desk, not my triumph over my "shady" supervisor, not even my paycheck. For the first time in my life, I had to suck it up and drag myself out of bed to a place that I did not want to be and to do work that I felt was meaningless. And then this thought occurred to me: This Can Not Be My Life 5 Years From Now!!!

This statement has become my new mantra in life. I am nearing the end of my undergraduate career and there are many questions that I have to start thinking about and need to finally answer. But after today, I already know the answer to one of these questions. I, The Intellect, will not be at this job upon graduation. Economy or no economy, I will not subject myself to torture anymore. I know now that I have other options in life and I will not be one of those adults that stick with a job just because it is secure and safe. If you know me then you know I am usually a cautious and pretty conservative person. But today's epiphany has changed me. I will not settle for less and for the first time in my life I am going to face my biggest fear (FAILURE) head on and I know I will win.

So I have to ask YGT readers: What's your biggest fear? How do you motivate yourself each and every morning? Are you stuck in a place right now where you don't wanna be and are struggling to get out? Let me know and leave some words of motivation, you never know who you might inspire.

When Is It Too Much?

The topic for today is Necklaces! Now, I'm never one for alot of jewelry as it tends to take away from the overall ambiance of one's outfit. But, lately with the re-emergence of huge, necklaces I'm enticed. It's nothing like a gigantic piece paired with a simple v-neck, skinny jean and platform heel. When you wear a necklace that draws attention to your neck you want to tone all the other pieces of your outfit down. The show took place in Venice, which provided a magical, charming background to the collection. Venice is still filled with the mystery that inspired Coco Chanel all those years ago. The aim of the show was to pay tribute to the city that influenced the famous designer over a whole decade.

The collection is full of inspirations, particularly the Italian nautical look from the 30s and the legendary gondolero suits, with black and white stripes and touches of red and blue. The elegance of Venice's high society in the 30s is obvious in the colour palette, in the garments and even in the models. Now you all know I love me some good music, and this new artist is no exception. If you have not heard of Carlitta Durand, then you need to do some research cause this is a name that you need to get used to. I first heard of Carlitta during the Art Lifestyle concerts here in Greensboro, but I really took notice when she was the opening act for the Foreign Exchange concert I attended in Carboro.

A recent graduate of NCCU, Carlitta Durand has the voice, the writing skills, and presence that many of my neo-soul fans will love. I had the chance to purchase Carlitta's cd "Carlitta's Way: The Prelude" and since then this compilation has been on repeat. Carlitta's smooth melodic voice will capture you from the first song to the last (seriously, no skips on this album).

Spring has arrived, and with it, the Opening Ceremony Lookbook for the season. The spread from the venerable retailer and design house, photographed by KT Auleta, showcases a collection of basics that is in line with many of the trends for this season. Khaki is everywhere, here in jean-cut shorts and full-length trousers, both of which continue to climb higher on the leg, Thom Browne-style. Morning Rant: How Far is Too Far!!!

Ok so this rant was going to be on a totally different topic, but when I checked my Twitter page and I saw that my girl MissJia (FYI follow her cause her updates are the business) had posted the newest scandalous pics of "singer" Cassie. I thought that I was going to see another shot of her new titty piercing, but when I clicked on the picture and was treated to Cassie spread eagle with her puss for the world to see I was shocked. I know the saying is all publicity is good publicity, but I wanna know how far does one have to go to get this publicity?

MisJia made a valid point on Twitter when she said that almost everyone has a risky photo or video of themselves somewhere, but I for one would not air it for the world to see. In my opinion, Cassie is a little girl that is lost. She has no real career in singing, and I think she should stick to modeling and acting (I liked her in Step Up). These publicity stunts are tired and weak. Yes, I realize I am feeding into her stunts by giving her air time through this post, but if in writing this post I can deter some young female from having to expose her goodies to get some tracks, then this post is worth it.

Like I said before when I wrote the post about Cassie's haircut, I think she needs to get a life and get an identity. Cassie is not believable and she is not relatable. If these pictures are some type of cry for help, then I think Cassie needs to head to Borders and pick up a copy of Sistah Soulja's No Disrespect and learn the ups and downs women will face to find themselves. This book changed my outlook on some many things, and I recommend it to all the YGT readers.

Beyonce and her family were seen yesterday in Paris for a little trip before her show at Bercy. She was caught wearing these 6 inch, Giuseppe Zanotti wedges that are everything! I don't know why Giuseppe did this but, it was well worth it.

International superstar Beyonce will bring a special engagement of her "I AM..." world tour to Encore at Wynn Las Vegas on July 30 and 31 and August 1 and 2. The performances, specially titled "I AM...YOURS," will be the last chance for fans to catch the singer on her 2009 North American tour. With less than 1,500 seats, the Encore Theater is the smallest venue of Beyonce's tour and will offer guests a once in a lifetime chance to experience her artistry up close and personal.

BET and Red Model Management team up for the new reality show, Model City. The show "Model City" will follow a group of African-American, male models working towards their ultimate dream, success in the modeling industry. The show will go as deep as showing the grueling photo shoots, extreme runway shows and over-the-top industry parties. The show is based around the essential question of "What does it take for a African-American male to make it in the industry?"

With the stigmas placed against African-American, male models this show is a great in depth view of the work that actually goes into being a male model. We've had America's Next Top Model which based itself around women's modeling and Make Me A Supermodel which touched vaguely on male models but, until Model City have we actually been submerged into the inner core of male modeling. I await seeing how audiences gravitate towards/away from this show when it hits airwaves on BET's new CENTRIC CHANNEL Fall Line-Up. As we find out more about the show and when it actually hits airwaves you can count on YGT to keep you up to date also!

Ty Ty Babies Take On Smiles

If you've ever watched America's Next Top Model or The Tyra Banks Show, you've probably heard Tyra talk about the many ways to smile. She's talked how to smile with only your eyes, how to smile for a commercial look and even how to smile and give high fashion teas. Well, I recently came across the interesting picture that showcases the variety of smiles and I wanted YGT's take on the smiles. Can anyone say they've honestly used any of these in a particular situation? Be honest. I've used the only smiling with your eyes one on a variety of occasions. Peep my side picture for an actual example.
• The Flirting-With-a-Man Smile: “Turn your shoulder to your man, move your face down, and use a sound effect, a little hmmmmmmmmm,” Banks said. (That “hmmmmmmm” is more of a cat purring than a “What should I have for lunch today? Hmmmmm,” obviously.)

• The Surprise Smile: “We’re not smiling like the surprise is real — it’s not ‘OMG, are you serious?’” Banks said. It’s a hand to the cheek, and a gasp. Remember, the surprise isn’t like, swine flu or an unexpected breakup; it’s more of a “I forgot my contacts at home!”

• The Catalogue Smile: This is the smile that sells J.Crew sweaters. “Put the left foot forward, and turn your head ahead as if there’s wind whipping you that way, and smile with your hand on your head and parted teeth. So walk forward with your hand on your right cheek, and step with your left foot, so your booty sticks out.” She then suggests you add a dainty “ahhhh” as a sound effect. Still following?

• The Angry Smile: Save this one for “bitches,” Banks said. You move a hand to your hip, look forward, “dip that booty to the right,” and let your face say “Okay, okay, okay, uh-huh.” This actually make sense in person.

• The Smile With the Eyes ©: “This is crucial,” she said. “It’s on magazine covers, it sells perfume, it sells shoes.” Hirschberg admitted this smile “has changed everything” for her. Tyra recommends pulling your shoulders down, facing forward, pretending there’s a string pulling your head up and that a dentist shot you in the mouth with Novocain. She said it’s “almost like you’re in Star Trek.” But if we could all do it, Tyra Banks wouldn’t be so special now, would she?

Tipper Sighting: Vicky B Edition

Vicky B arrived at a NYC airport to attend the annual MET gala. Now that wasn't the gagger, she always tips through airports. Sasha Fierce Says Someone Is Getting Fied Tonight

I found this interesting video from a recent performance by none other than Sasha Fierce. The video shows a ultra-fab Sasha performing "Diva" when out of nowhere she says "Someone's getting fired tonight." Looking at the performance I saw nowhere where Beyonce fell or slipped so I'm unsure if it was that or just a means of comedy. Either way it's funny and I look forward to hearing/seeing how that statement pans out. I know if she was serious in actuality, someone back-stage was scared boots because their job is now non-existent.

Morning Rant

So if you have been following me on Twitter (which I highly recommend, theINTELLECT/twitter.com) then you will know that I have been going off about white people adopting children from Africa. Yes, I see that these people are rich and can give these children a life better life, but at what cost?

Will Angelina and Brad teach their adopted African daughter anything about her culture? Will they teach her that even though her name is Jolie-Pitt, there will still be people that will hate her due to the color of her skin? Hell, will they teach her the beauty and versatility of her hair and the beauty that is brown skin? I think not!!!

But the real source behind this rant, is singer Madonna's court appeal to adopt a 3 year-old girl from Malawi. The girl in question has been in an orphanage all her life, but her father (who never knew she existed) is trying to battle Madonna for the right to keep his daughter. Now, I might not know all the facts of this case, but if DNA proves that the child belongs to the African man, then I hope Madonna is denied. In my opinion a child belongs with family, even if that family never knew you existed for three years.

It makes me sick to see all these celebrities running over to Third World nations to adopt children of culturally diverse backgrounds. Like I said before, I like that these children are getting a better life, but if the child is denied the history of their ancestors or of their people then what is a better life? If these celebrities were really interested in helping these "brown" children, then why are they not adopting the African American children who are living without any love or support iin their own country?

As this is a rant I do not have any real answers to all the questions I have posed, but I do want to get your opinion YGT readers. Do you agree with interracial/international adoption? Do you think this is good press for white celebrities? Do you think the adoption of African children by rich White's is a throwback to the selling of unwanted African during the slave trade?
