Leather Goods: Male Edition

With fall steadily approaching it's time to make the most essential fall purchase one can make and that's on a leather coat. A leather coat can be worn for business or casually or to give your outfit a modern feel or dark, edgy look. As you've probably noticed leather coats tend to be pricey but, it's a coat that will transcend seasons and can be worn for a various amount of years. I wasn't a huge fan of leather at first as it tends to not keep you warm but, with fashion comes a price. I'd have to say being cold is worth looking F-A-B. With that said, start your journey on finding the perfect leather coat.

Throwback Tuesday

The Throwback Tuesday is none other than Tweet's "Oops (Oh My)" off her debut album Southern Hummingbird. I remember the scrutiny that this video suffered due to the fact she was talking about masturbation. I don't know why people were so offended that she was talking about pleasing yourself. Hell, sometime you gotta do what you gotta do(wink wink)!!

She Spoke It Into Existence

Anna talks being the editor of Vogue:
It has always been my dream job. I remember when I was maybe 10 and I was sent this form from school. It said, what is your career choice? My dad was an editor in London and he said, 'You should just write out you want to be the editor of Vogue.' So he knew it before I did. But the minute he said that, I thought, that's right. That's it, I am going to do that.

As Promised...

So I was trying to be greedy and see both Michelle and Barack Obama, but it was not meant to be. However, as promised I was lucky enough to catch Michelle at the Carolina Theater this past Thursday.
Speaking to a capacity crowd, Michelle Obama took to the stage to speak about her husband, his stance on the economy, and most of all getting people registered to vote. Citing voting as "the first access of power in this country," Michelle urged the crowd to get out and become a volunteer to help get people registered. Some surprises of the event was Dr. Maya Angelou introducing Michelle. As a former supporter of Hillary Clinton, Angelou commented on her beliefs and how she has now become a supporter and admirer of Barack and his wife; who she dubbed "the real thing!" All in all it was a wonderful event, and I hope to one day attend a Barack Obama rally before the election, but if not there is always Inauguration Day!!

Morning Man Bag

I came across these two particular bags by Rag & Bone and became excited. I love bags but, they must be of quality. What I like about these two bags in particular are the versatility. They look fashion-forward but, yet a bag you can carry everyday. That is important when your considering purchasing a bag. You don't want to buy this outlandish Fendi/Louis Vuitton bag for thousands of bucks and then look a pickle on campus when it doesn't work with an array of outfits. Temperley London - Spring 2009

Ryan Leslie 'Addiction Version - #2 '

Ryan explains why he shot two videos:
For the record, I am very happy with both of my videos and what they represent. The first one that I shot with Diane Martel was a statement about the need for more diversity in the fashion business. I had just come from checking out the runways in Milan and aside from the DSquared2 show, I saw very little diversity represented. That video was a chance for me to work with a very strong female director and some under-exposed talent in the modeling world. The style is simple and photographic.

Ryan talks the alternate video above:
This video represents a different and just as important side of me: the imaginative, cinematic side. I worked with Aaron Platt and John Monopoly to make this tale of a stalker super-fan (played by Jeannena Flores from my 'Diamond Girl' movie) come to life. Starring Jaslene Gonzales (winner of America's Next Top Model) and featuring cameos by collaborators Fabolous and Swizz Beats, this video finds me in studio, shopping with my girl, and catching her as she falls - swooning unconsciously from my stalker's poisoned libation. (The text message at 3:55 reads "WE WILL BE TOGETHER xxoxoxoxoxo")

On why Cassie wasn't featured in the video:
Due to her hectic schedule recording this new album, she wasn't available to shoot either 'Addiction' video with me and so I'm working on another collaboration/single for her album that deserves a video - unless I can convince her to do one for "Sometimes" or even "Just One Nite" (both songs I would love to see visually interpreted).

A Mimic Of The Carters - Please!

Peep this video of Akon, Nelly & Ashanti performing "Body On Me" on The Jay Leno show. I think Ashanti and Nelly are a cute couple but, not to the extent where they need to be everywhere together like the Carters. Remember, Bey & Hov kept their relationship a secret at first which is what kept us engaged. Nelly and Ashanti, we know you two are together we're not in a state of anticipation. Nonetheless, it was an alright performance. Let me know what you think!

A Fall Must Have: Ruffles

The Ruffle shirt which has been around for decades is coming back hard this fall. Adorned on men and women alike, the ruffle allows you the ability to dress it up and down, from business to casual, or from day to night. You better hit up your local vintage boutique or Forever 21 so that you have your ruffle swag intact before fall fully emerges. I know i will!

RIP 'Total Request Live' (TRL)

We have grown up watching the countdown of America's Top 10 favorite videos. After 10 years MTV's TRL will be layed to rest this November.

"We want to close this era of `TRL' in a big celebratory way, and 10 is a great number," Sirulnick said. "And 10 is the number that `TRL' counted down every single day for 10 years, and we hit this 10th (anniversary) and we thought, `You know what? This feels like the right time and let's celebrate it and let's reward it. And let's let it have a little bit of a rest for a minute.' Let it catch its breath! Been working hard — for 10 years!"

TRL debuted in September 1998 when boy groups Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Britney Spears were teen pop star phenomenons. TRL has brought some of the most famous musicians, and movie stars to Time Square.

*NEW* Keri Hilson - Turn You On. . .feat. Lil Wayne

I really hate how the media is inclined to take the "it" of the year and send them through media overkill. When will these artists learn that big brother is only going to milk them for what they are work, then discard them for the next big thing? Stay true and hold out, longevity is much more lucrative than selling 500,000 copies your first week.

When it comes to music, less really is more. And in your case Lil Wayne, LESS IS MORE. Keep your fans begging for new material, dont give them so MUCH lackluster material that they dont know what to do with themselves. Oh well. Money is the root of all evil, and youre a hater if you question how one makes their money, huh? Hes had what . .several hundred songs in the last few years? Ludacris. Thats stretching your artistry thin, to put it nicely. But enough about that coon, its all about Keri Hilson.

Boy oh boy. . that album . .

Christian Siriano Spring 2009

Winner of Project Runway Season 4, Christian Siriano has been very, very, busy lately. His activities include appearing on shows such as Ugly Betty, designing a maternity line and even writing his own book. His biggest accomplishment to date would have to be showcasing his new Spring Line at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Thursday night. I love Christian's Line, it flowed and wasn't far from his element. Alot of designers try to create new and innovative things which is great but, at the same time lose what made them hot in the first place. I'm glad Christian didn't go that route and stuck with his roots. Christian was quoted as saying:"I'm doing so many projects! It's crazy." That's great to hear from a former winner of Project Runway. He didn't suffer the backlash many reality TV show winners experience. So with that said, Keep up the Good work Christian.

Forget Love...Just Straight Lockdown

According to various media sources and now the police, Kanye West was arrested at LAX airport Thursday morning. From what is being reported by People.com and TMZ.com, it seems that West and his mangager had a run in with a paparazzo, in which a camera valued at $10,000 was broken. Now this is nothing to get worked up about because no one was injured and luckily there were no drugs or weapons involved (take note Wayne and T.I). Based on his charges, vandalism and battery, it looks like West is gonna have to come up off some money and pay what he broke (the battery charges will most likely get thrown out).
I'm just hoping that the robot voice machine was broken in the process.

Thursday Throwback

As I wrap up my first time posting the Throwback videos of the week, I had to close my "Gone But Not Forgotten" Bad Boy Records edition with one of my favorite rap tracks ever. Craig Mack's Flava In Ya Ear, was the first hit record on Bad Boy and was one of the first to have cross-over appeal, peaking on the Hot 100 at #9. Although I love the original track, the remix for this song is iconic; I mean Diddy did invent the remix. Featuring LL. Cool J, Rampage, B.I.G, and a solo Busta Rhymes, this video had it all for early 90s rap and the beat alone is classic. Also peep the infamous Diddy (Puff Daddy, back then) and the empty bottles Bad Booooyyy . Craig Mack's Flava In Ya Ear remix is today's throwback video. So let's take it back to 1994 and enjoy!!!

Enough Is Enough

The newest Republican controversy has emerged, and once again it centers around the Republicans greatest diversion (secret weapon) VP nominee Sarah Palin. Following a speech earlier in the week in which Obama referred to McCain's energy plan as "putting lipstick on a pig," somehow the Republicans have voiced a complaint that in saying these comments Barack was subliminally referring to Palin. Now I have seen the clip and in no where does Barack ever mention Palin, and if you are really listening to what he is saying there is no way that you can even think that Obama was referring to Palin. Once again what we have is another diversion by the Right to try and spin conspiracy theories about the Left, but never once have we actually seen any news feeds about the Republican candidates talking about the issues.

Fed up with all the Republican nonsense, Barack fired back this week in a speech in which he finally said "Enough is Enough" and read both McCain and the Republican party. I for one thought this was long overdue, and I am happy that Barack is still handling himself and his campaign with dignity and class. Get into his read below and let us know how you feel about this latest conspiracy.

Is anybody else ready for Thursday to hear Palin finally speak?

Andre 3000 Presents:Benjamin Bixby

Andre 3000 who I consider a fashion icon has released his new clothing line, "Benjamin Bixby". Andre's line premiered last Friday during Mercedes Benz Fashion week with many stars stopping by to see what he had up his sleeve. 3000's Fall 08/Spring 09 line will consist of 70 pieces derived from the concept of college football in the 1930's. Andre was quoted as saying: "You had rough guys who played football, but they were impeccably dressed. So now, if a guy wants to wash his face, they call him a metro sexual or whatever. So my thing is, cut all that out. People feel like just because you like to dress well ... that don't mean you're gay! I don't know where that came from! You know? It's clothes!" That's a great example of a fashion connoisseur trying to break the mold of what society has built. There has been no set date for Benjamin Bixby's release hence, it's self-funded. But Andre is currently looking for a partner. So, for right now we'll just have to be patient. But, while were waiting we can also anticipate Andre's new album which he is currently working on. Feast Below on the pictures from the premiere.

Friday Night Lights: A&t vs WSSU

This past weekend The Intellect & I met up with The Elder to attend the infamous NC A&T/WSSU game. When we arrived at the game it was packed boots. So, The Intellect and I look at each other like how are we going to work this? Hence, the mean ass security guard telling us we needed to sit down. Our first move included sitting with some trendy, young ladies who talked of women empowerment at WSSU which I found interesting. They discussed a program where they planned to go into the dorms on Winston Salem State's campus and help empower the girls. I couldn't seem to remember these young ladies' names but I'll have The Elder look them up via facebook because their idea was genius. Once halftime hit The Intellect and I were able to finally sit with The Elder. So here we are enjoying the game when the coonery starts. Anyone who attends a HBCU knows that cheerleaders from rival schools usually throw shade. But, the shade thrown between the cheerleaders from WSSU and A&T was extreme. So, at first I just thought they were saying outlandish comments towards each other and doing childish things cheerleaders do. But, all of a sudden a slight altercation almost started from what should have been nothing. So here we all are in the stands looking like: "What's going on"? Once the situation was handled I was once again taken aback when balls were thrown at the A&T cheerleaders via WSSU's side and the opposite when WSSU's cheerleaders went onto A&t's side. This was a prime example of coonery but, considering The Intellect and I attend a PWI(predominately white institute) we found this scenario to be quite interesting. Nonetheless, after all the nights antics were handled and the game began back we enjoyed a great night of football and conversation with The Elder. A&t came out with the win 14-8. Keep up the good work Aggies.

The Rachel Zoe Project

I'm in love. Last night I watched the first episode of Rachel Zoe's New Show: The Rachel Zoe Project. I love her spunky attitude, keen fashion sense and die hard work ethic. From the way Rachel speaks you can tell Fashion is a concept embed ed into her which I admire. Her show gives us viewers a fly on the wall aspect of what her typical day consist of from styling celebrity clients to meeting the extreme deadlines of fashion shows and photo shoots. To keep Rachel Zoe sane in what can be a chaotic world she has three people. Her husband and business partner, Roger and two assistants Taylor and Brad. From watching the show you can tell these are her rocks which is great. Alot of times in the industry celebrities have this mindset like "I'm doing this all by myself" where on the contrary we know the industry is a you scratch my back, I scratch yours type business. Any who, below I've posted a clip from the first episode where Zoe and assistant, Taylor are L.A., trendy, boutique Decades. The two are searching for a dress for actress, Joy Bryant. But, what's so hot is the way Rachel discusses how every time she goes to 'Decades' she can't help but pick up an item for herself. I say when you work that hard shopping should be your hobby. So it's nothing wrong with that Rachel! Make sure you tune in to 'The Rachel Zoe Project' which airs Tuesdays at 10pm.

Now You Can Achieve The Vicky B Look

Victoria Beckham better known as Posh Spice or Vicky B. has launched her own line of dresses. The immaculate dresses include body conscious silhouettes, fitted shoulder lines and posture/derriere enhancers. What I find so interesting is that so many elements went into making these dresses (ie:the rose-gold back zipper which prevents you from messing up your make-up and hair). Any celebrity can put their name on a clothing line but, to take the time and creative energy out to include certain elements shows her passion for the dresses. The prices for the Vicky B. exclusive dresses range from $1,500 to $3600 dollars, so girls start saving your coins. Victoria Beckham was quoted as saying: "This has been a lifetime in the making, I don't want to make dresses that will date. I've always been about clever buying". I must say I'm excited about this dress collection. Victoria Beckham is a modern day fashion icon and by allowing others to experience her fashion sense is great. I just hope the women that tip in these dresses realize your wearing a Vicky B exclusive and not some late dress from Group USA. Get into the Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear Dresses below.

So I was watching Making the Band and then I switched over to VH1's I Wanna Work for Diddy, and I began to think "Where did all the 90s talent from Bad Boy go?" Well since I am in charge of the videos this week, the theme for this week is classic Bad Boy artist who have came and went (this will exclude Lil Kim and B.I.G because they deserve a week all to themselves).

My pick for the Tuesday Throwback video has to go to the original Day 26. I have always been a fan of 112 and this video reminds me why I love these guys. This video reminds me of those days in summer camp when you used to listen to your single cassette tapes on the bus. Peep both B.I.G and Mase in the video and you know it would not be a Bad Boy production without Mr. I Thought I Told You We Won't Stop himself.

Official Ryan Leslie Video For "Addiction"

We present to you the official video for Ryan Leslie's banger "Addiction" featuring Cassie and Fabolous. This song which has been in rotation in my ipod for about 4 months is on FIRE. But, where the hell is my girl Cassie at in the video? The model in the video is giving me couture movements but, Cassie would have gave that bitch a run for her money. Can we say Remix Prt 2 video featuring Cassie much? I think so. Nonetheless, Get into the silhouettes and gray scale throughout the video.

After a challenging U.S Open in which she had to face both her sister and the powerhouse Russian Safina, Serena Williams outlasted Serbian Jelena Jankovic to win her 9th Grand Slam title and her 3rd U.S Open title. I am really a fan of tennis and I have always loved Serena even when she was rocking those beads shudders). The match was close at times with both women breaking each other on serve, but in the end it was my Serena who was jumping for joy in the end. I loved it even more when they handed her trophy and her check for 1.5 million dollars. Now with her money, her trophy, and her man (Common, who was also spotted around the tournament last week) Serena also got the added bonus of jumping from the world's number 4 in tennis to the number 1 ranking. With Serena being back to her healthy self and as the top female tennis player in the land I will expect great things from her from here on out.

Congrats Serena!!

VMA Fashion Round Up

I was neutral with the 2008 Video Music Awards as far as performances and awards wise but, I got my life from the Fashion showcased last night. Below are some pictures of my favorites from the night. Peep below each photo for my commentary on that particular outfit.

These 4 ladies showed up and showed out. I really like the print of Pink's design, usually in some goth type garment this was a great change. Katy Perry's ensemble was immaculate, she gives me Dita Von Teese tease definitely. Ri-Ri is fashion forward as always I must say and Christina went simple in black with a light sparkle. All these ladies went with what would work and that's always the right thing to do.

Lindsay went for the simplistic look which worked quite well. She seems to be back on the right path which is great.

John Legend is giving me H&M meets Versace, which I like alot. I adore the coat he's wearing. It looks very versatile!! HAHA subliminal message much? But, that's another topic in itself.

I like the cohesiveness of the group's outfits without it being overbearing. Thank god they made D.Woods wear heels this time instead of a dreaded tennis shoe.

Peep Miss. CiCi who was decked out in D&G, Jimmy Choo and Red bottoms. I liked everything except the hair but, it was a change from her usual extended mane.

I'm neutral with Keri. She could have came a little harder but, sometimes you have to stick to what you know. Can we get Rihanna's stylist to help revamp Keri's image? If so I think she be some competition.

Lauren Conrad went for the virginal look decked in all white. I liked her dress. It was very flattering but not in an overly sexual manner. I think she showcased all the correct body parts and did it very, very tastefully. Kudos to Ms. Conrad.

Now Lupe gave me what I wanted. His outfit is amazing. It's different, interesting and showcases his personality. The best part of his outfit is the outlandish black boots. They add a 'I don't give a fuck' element. I love it, I fuckin' love it.

Simple and chic, It's Toccarra!! Get into her eye brow and Keyshia Cole like hairstyle. Toccarra can do no wrong in my book!!

Paramore was another favorite of the night I'd say. I like how they all brought something fresh and vibrant to their outfits. They are trendsetters on the rise definitely.

I'm glad C.Breezy has realized less is more. He went for the simple white with an accent color which is always great. Ri-Ri finally pulled him to the side and said "Baby your on my arm, we gotta do better". I love her for that! Keep up the good work Chrissy.

He needs no introduction. He's Mister West! Just get into his entire ensemble. He's a fucking iCON--

The Jonas Brothers exemplify Trendsetters Up And Coming. From their tailored suits to intricate detailing they give me exactly what I want. No matter be it the recording studio or the local theme park, they always give me UO meets D&G and I love it. They had to be my favorite trio of the night. Go off Jonas!!

The Only Good Thing Of The Night....VMA roundup pt2

Well I didn't get much from the VMAs, but I will admit there were a few winners/losers of the night who delivered/disappointed when it came to their performances

The Winners:

First off, Little Miss Sunshine has ditched the Umbrella and got her some Leather. Rhianna's rendition of Disturbia gave me so much hope for the night and a little Mad Max tease with the ponytail. When her dancers first entered into the building looking like crazed zombies straight out of a fashion magazine I got my life!! Then RiRi surprised everyone and came prepared with some strong vocals, and although she was not as fluid when it came to the dance moves I still loved the feel she was giving. Furthermore, RiRi showed more of her rocker side by adding a little White Stripe's Seven Nation Army (I love the bass in this song, download it if possible) which really added more to her performance. All in all Rihanna has stepped her game up, and now that she has been to the vocal coach I'm thinking she needs some time with the dance coach (meeting with Ms. Boom Kat maybe??)

My second favorite of the night was hands down The Jonas Brothers. After getting picked on all night by the host (waiting to have sex is very admirable and nothing to joke about), Kevin, Joe, and Nick delivered a great performance of their new song Lovebug. I loved how they started off acoustic then picked it up and rocked it out with all the adoring fans. As always they brothers were dressed to impress (more on that coming from the Fashion Connoisseur) and in my opinion they were the best band of the night.

My next fave of the night was Paramore. I have been into this band since I was in high school and I love the energy they bring to the stage not to mention the vocals of their lead singer Hayley. This band as always given me a early No Doubt vibe, and if they continue on the right path I know they will do great things. If not Hayley can always go solo with chops like this.

To wrap up the winning performances of the night, I would have to give it to all the commercial fillers. Just like last year, MTV would have special guest performances during the commercial breaks that we the audience would only see a glimpse of. I really find this annoying because most of the good stuff is missed doing this. With that being said, check out the full performances of Lupe Fiasco, Katy Perry, The Ting Tings (love this group), and even some old school LL Cool J.

The Losers:

Now I may be biased since I am not a fan of Lil Wayne, but I got nothing from his performance that I didn't already see at the BET awards early in the summer. Did he rap some song that I could barely understand (yes), is everyone still on that Mili song even though his album came and went and was actually beat by the Mama Mia soundtrack (hell, yes) and did he close his performance with the number one Coon in the game (unfortunately, yes). The only bright spot came in the amazing vocals of Leona Lewis, who I am really starting to dig.

Pink's performacne=boring and overdone, enough said.

Christina Agueleria's performance was just plain weird. First off when you know your former arch rival (Britt Britt) is sitting right in front of you as you stage your comeback onto the MTV scene why did she lip sing when she has one of the most explosive and powerful voices in the game. Furthermore, her performance looked like the leftovers from Rihanna's mixed in with some bad clothes from a superhero movie. So I guess since this performance was bad, MTV will rig next year's show so that Christina gets all the awards and is over-hyped for only 5 seconds of work (oops I did it again, sorry Britt).

Honorable Mentions:

T.I delivered a good performance it was nothing to rave about, but I did watch some of it.

The House band of DJ AM and Travis Barker was amazing. I really loved the remix they did to Oasis' Wonderwall, and as always Travis is a beast on the drums and gave it to them all night.

And Finally the closer of the show. Mr. West, who vowed he would never be back on the MTV stage, must suffer from short term memory lost because not only was he back on the network he closed the show with a new song. His new song entitled Love Lockdown was kinda a Letdown. I really could not get into Kanye's trademark lyrics because all I could here his horrible use of the T-Pain cyber voice. Also I could not help feeling as if I had heard this sound before, and then I remembered the Love Below. I'm just saying this performance was okay, but I'm gonna need more from Mr. West before I make my final decision.

There you have it my picks for best and worst performances of the night from the lackluster MTV VMAs.

And The Winner Is....No One!!!! VMA Roundup pt 1

So the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards came and went, and I for one was really disappointed in the show. First and foremost it seemed as if there were no celebs in the building and if they were there they were so far away from the stage and the fans that when the camera cut to them they were doing just like I was at home: Looking Bored!! Secondly, who ever decided to hire the Euro import Russell Brand as the host should definitely be looking for a new job today. The host was not funny, really creepy at times, and for some reason he would not leave the stage and would simply introduce the presenters and then precede to do their job. Since this was the 25th anniversary of the VMAs I was expecting so much more from MTV, but at times I had to remind myself that I was watching an MTV production and not the BET awards (people not having mics, backstage hands actually being seen on stage, etc). I used to look forward to the VMAs every year because they would always give you a good surprise that you would be talking about the next day and always put on a good show, but I have to say that MTV has fallen and (dare I say it) the BET awards was much better.
All the hype surrounding Brittany's return to the MTV awards was once again all hype and no delivery. For all the promo shots, commercials, and media speculation on what Britt was going to do, MTV pulled another one on us and gave us NOTHING!! For a good one minute we were treated to Brittany Spears talking about the anniversary of the awards show and blah blah blah I don't know what else she said because she was talking too fast. The whole time she was speaking I was thinking "Hoe sit down and shut up" but I must admit Ms. Spears looked nice and she was fully dressed so that is all that matters. Now Brittany's 3 awards of the night is another story altogether. I know MTV has a history of not rewarding those who generate the most buzz on the network, but Brittany did not deserve those 3 awards and that is all I am going to say about that.
Now on to the other winners of the night. They were all irrelevant. I could not tell you who won what because I don't think they even knew what they won. Thankfully all the acceptance speeches were short and too the point, but was I the only one wondering who Tokio Hotel was and why they were scaring me so much. Anyway this award show was boring and thank God Entourage is back on and that the U.S Open was really good (post coming soon) or else I would have been stuck watching only the VMAs.
Can we bring back the classic VMAs of 1999 and 2000 please???

I love the ability to wear something to class but maybe add a light accessory and have the ability to wear it to dinner. That's what real clothing is about: Versatility. Any Season Necessity: Liquid Legging

The Intellect and I were discussing Fall Fashion and how to revamp our closets for the fall, when a fall must have arose: The Legging. What begin as a form of warmth and protection has now been re-invented in the form of metallics and prints. What I like about the legging is the versatility, the ability to dress it up or down and the availability to wear it throughout various seasons. Those attributes alone are reasons to make the legging a closet must have. With that said, I present the material to you but, it's up to you to take it and run with it. Embark my fashion connoisseurs, EMBARK!

Up In Pumps

I present to you the 2008 Lamb Collection: Footwear Edition. Gwen went hard with this particular shoe line and I must say I'm highly impressed. I like how Gwen made these shoes very versatile. They could be worn to the office or out on the town and that's key with a high end shoe. The yellow pair gives me exactly what the fuck I want. Keep up the good work Gwen! Feast my young fashion connoisseur(s).

Gag Reel: 5th Annual Fashion Rocks

Peep these pictures from the 5th Annual Fashion Rocks Extravaganza. I must say out of everyone I was most impressed with Ciara and Rihanna. I feel as if both ladies accomplished what was needed for this particular event. I like how Ciara's dress showed off her wonderful physique and how Rihanna went for the more simplistic look, which at times can be rare for her. I give props to both ladies for knowing what works for what event. My least favorite outfit(s) for the night would have to be between Chris Brown and Ashanti. The two always do alot. Chris needs to wear clothes more appropriate for his age. If your going to be this young r&b connoisseuryou need to dress the role. He should have went for the more classic look. Maybe a plain, white Versace button-up with some crisp dark blue, cropped slacks with a brown dress shoe. That would have been a bit more chic and age appropriate. If your girlfriend is out her tippin as this fashion icon but, your out here dressed like lateboots, what's the point? Come on Chris we got to do better. Now Ms. Ashanti on the other end. SHEESH!! I sometimes think Ashanti tries to hard to achieve what we'd call 'FASHIONABLE' status. Her dress was sparkly but, not done in the correct fashion. When you do sparkles you have to make sure they add to the dress all the while still complementing you. Her dress didn't do that. I also don't feel like the shoes accentuated the dress. If she was going to do that dress I could have seen a strappy Roberto Cavalli sandal. That would have went hard. As I've stated before though 'To each is it's own'. I'm just offering my viewpoint. Lastly, Ms. Tyra Banks. I'm neutral with her outfit. It didn't give me life but, not death either. Lace-front baby hairs definitely on point and make up flawless as usual, enough said for Ty-Ty Baby. Peep the rest of The 5th Annual Fashion Rocks photos and let us know how you feel about your favorite celebrities threads.

Gucci Coon

Just like black people to make something so urban. As I posted earlier black entertainers and people in general have made what started as a high end label into what we'd call "The Pitts". If you don't know the term, learn it. As you've learned by now I'm not really into labels. I don't knock anyone who wears them or can afford to buy them, but it's just not for me. So when I saw this bag so urbanized I was appalled. I just wish a rep for Gucci would contact both women and inform them of how late this purse (be it real or fake) is. Until they've been contacted I leave you with the infamous Soulja boy "Gucci Bandanna". What's the world coming to?

Gag Reel: Beyonce & Rihanna

Peep this picture of Mrs. Carter (the one and only for the haters) and Ms. Breezy(the ONLY,literally) taken from Stand Up For Cancer benefit. What i find so interesting about this picture is that Beyonce and Rihanna are near each other. There has been talk for awhile about the two not liking each other because of some steamy rumors of an affair between Ri-Ri and Jay. Now we all know that's false, but the picture is still funny nonetheless. It looks like Beyonce is thinking "If this whore's hand touches mine, it's over". While Rihanna's saying "Why did I not put my bang down to cover up my forehead"? I've love to really know how these two feel about each other. With the way Jay-Z has both of these two on lock I guess we'll never know. Any who, The two ladies alongside an array of other female artist are included on the song "Just Stand Up", which goes toward helping people living with cancer. Below is the actual video of the lades performing "Just Stand Up". Get into who starts off the song!!

VMA Fashion: Past & Present

To gear up for the 2008 Video Music Awards which airs tomorrow on MTV at 9pm, we've posted some pictures of fashion hit(s) and misses from the past. The awards will include performances by Rihanna, Jonas Brothers, T.I., Lil Wayne, Kanye, Paramore and Pink. On top of that I know everyone is looking forward to seeing what people wear on the red carpet. For that reason I've posted these pictures via MTV.com of celebrity outfits from the red carpet. Peep the pictures and let us know how you feel about the outfits worn by your favorite stars.

Christina
Aguliera

I like Christina Aguliera, even though her outfits can come off extreme at times. I feel as if she's learned what her niche is. I love when she does the red lip with a simple outfit. It gives me that simplistic element I adore. My favorite outfit she's worn would have to be 2006, that's when she realized classic was the way to go.

Rihanna

Here we have Miss. Blogger herself, Rihanna. I'm not an avid Rihanna fan but, I must admit the media loves her. Looking at these 3 pictures I can see where she has come a long way. From the belly shirts and baby doll dresses to fitted ruffle tops and high waisted skirts, Ri-Ri is a trendsetter on the move. She has learned her niche via her record label and ran with it. Looking at these 3 pictures Rihanna use to be very blain but, now she's the "it" girl for new trends and go to looks. I get life off her a bit but, I can't give her too much!

Justin Timberlake

We have JT himself. He's an icon. He is one of the only white musicians who can pull off the tailored look. JT use to go for the ruff around the edges look but, he's transformed into this tailored, suit wearing gentleman which I like alot. I really adore his 2006 outfit. I looks like an all day outfit which is great. He could put that on around 4pm and wear it deep into the wee morning, which is a great element for a ensemble to posses. JT has got his designer cool points, for sure.

Gwen Stefani

From punk rock to pulled together chic, Gwen Stefani is EVERYTHING. I love how she takes vintage pieces, throws them with something funky and everyone follows suit. She is another avid wearer of the red lip which everyone can't pull off. What I like about her so much is her 'I don't give a fuck what you think' attitude. This attitude dates back to the beginning when Gwen first tipped onto the scene with No Doubt via the blue hair and crazy outfits, she gave funky tease and still does now with a more tailored effect. I say "Keep Going Off Gwen"!

Ludacris
Ludacris would have to be my number one choice for Most Improved. He went from urban guru to suit connoisseur (no punt intended). I like how he transitioned also. He didn't try to go from Ecko to Versace overnight. He took it in strides which is what you should do. Keep up the good work Chris, I look forward to seeing his threads at the awards tomorrow night.

Mary J. Blige

I don't always agree with Sister Mary's choices when it comes to fashion but, she always sticks to her roots. Mary is that home girl down the street who takes designer clothes but doesn't let them make her. She realizes 'yeah I'm wearing this d&g dress but, I'm still the girl from down the block that'll beat your ass' which I love. She always gives me face beat via MAC with a nice sew-in. I say stick to the normal Mary and you'll never go wrong.

Beyonce

Ahhh Mrs. Carter!! Now she hasn't always been a style iCON but, she goes off in her own way. One thing I've noticed about Bey is that she loves metallics. I don't know what her infatuation with metallics is but, she always looks great in them. I think it's the fact her skin is always bronzed and her lace-front wig intact. Beyonce is another person who transitioned through time with fashion. She started as a flop (via Jumpin, Jumpin and Bills, Bills, Bills) but, she now takes what works for her and uses it to her advantage. (via entire B-day promo pictures) Red bottoms on deck, Go-- Mrs. Carter.

Usher
Usher who's been M.I.A VMA awards since `05 still goes hard in the fashion department. I love his 2004 outfit which was the year the awards were in Miami. He chose the perfect outfit to show off his skin and suave persona. At that particular show he looked so comfortable and chic which is key to being FLY. Usher equipped with his dad swag goes off when he needs to. Always decked out in black leather or all white Usher gets my vote as a style connoisseur in his own right.

As he dashes off to find his VMA ensemble,

It's The Fashion Connoisseur. Trademark that bitch!!

Time To Put In Work

With both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions coming to a close, the official Presidential Campaign season has begun. For the next two months, we will be bombarded with all types of coverage of the candidates. From the scandals to the presidential hopefuls hitting the key campaign states, we will be getting it all from now until November. With this in mind I really want to make sure that everyone knows who they are voting for and why they are voting for that person.

In order to prepare for this election season, I highly recommend that if you are eligible to vote that you take the time and do the research on the candidates. I find that all to often most Black people will just go with the flow and vote for who ever is on the Democratic ticket just because "that's the party of Black people." However, contrary to popular belief, this was not always the case. Before the Great Depression, Black people were mostly Republicans because a long time ago a guy named Lincoln freed our ancestors; and guess what he was Republican. But when the Great Depression hit and Democrats rose to power under Franklin D. Roosevelt, most Blacks switched over to the Democratic side. Basically, history has shown that Blacks tend to migrate to whichever party has the best interest of African Americans at the time.

Now that we have a little history on the trend in the Black community involving politics, I would like to see an end to this blind follow the leader routine with African Americans. For a long time I considered myself to be a Black Republican, and when I would tell people this they would often look at me like I was crazy and demand to know how I could side with people who "didn't care for Black people." Well the reasoning behind my former stance as a Republican was that I had a very conservative view of society and I felt that the Republican party offered solutions that, were harsh at times, but needed especially in the Black community. I have always felt the Welfare system was designed to keep Blacks down and that Abortion was wrong. However as I got older and learned more about myself and my people I realized that there are many different ways of life and that I have varying opinions on a wide range of topics. This is not to say that I still do not have conservative views, but I also have liberal views as well; which makes me proud to call myself a Centrist instead of a Democrat or a Republican. But as more and more people are getting ready to vote, I feel that you should really look at what the candidates stand for and what you truly agree and disagree with. Do not let the media or your friends or family influence your choice. And when the time comes to vote, do so with pride and the knowledge that who you vote for is an informed choice that reflects your political stance.

As a first time voter myself, I really cherish the fact that I can vote and see it as an honor and a privilege that pays homage to those who came before me. So do yourself a favor and register to vote and then make the choice to research all the candidates and make the right choice for YOU!!

Stars Discuss Brit's Fashion Sense

This is a piece derived from MTV.com where celebrity stylist discuss Britney Spears and her fashion sense:

Tim Gunn, Project Runway:

"I'm sorry! Well, she's a mess. I mean, I know she's getting better. I'm woeful about her. I'm dubious about how much she wants to succeed. I think she's in a bubble, but I don't trust it will last. I don't mean to be mean, but she's difficult."

Richie Rich, Heatherette:

"Just show off her body. She's looking great these days. I think Britney needs to show it off. [That's] what she's the best at. ... Everybody wants to root for her. It's gonna be good!"

June Ambrose, Stylist To The Stars:

All Britney needs this year is clothes. "She was naked last year, so clothes," she explained. "I think she should accentuate her legs, show soft cleavage — not overt cleavage — and less sparkle. ... Go more matte and mod, more '40s pinup. It can be hot for her."

This just goes to show there are people who want Brit to tip again. Come on Britt, we have faith in you!

News Update: Brit is Opening The VMAs, Just Not By Performing

It has been confirmed via MTV that Ms. Spears will be opening the 25th Annual Video Music Awards. There was speculations of Brit opening the awards but, MTV reps confirmed that she would not be performing. Instead, a press release stated Brit will be opening the awards by saying hello to her fans and showing her excitement for her 3 award nominations. Brit who has never won a VMA but, has been nominated many times may win an award this year. The 3 award nominations are for her single 'Piece Of Me'. Despite all the backlash Brit has been suffering lately I think she is on the road to recovery. With the maturity showed by giving K-Fed full custody for the well being of her kids and the rehab stints it goes to show Brit wants to take back her career. All we can do is Root For The Best. People don't like to admit it but, Miss Brit use to go off. She is coming back!! So get prepared.

Ne-Yo tells R.Kelly "Gimme My Money"

I bet if you look for Ne-Yo he's at the bank cashing his long, awaited check from mogul Robert Kelly. Ne-Yo, who was dropped from Kelly's Trapped In The Closet Tour for undisclosed reasons was finally awarded what he would have made on the tour, $700,000. The tour which Ne-Yo would have been on for 25 dates would have grossed him the amount of $785,0000. Who cares about that measley $85,000 when you didn't end up having to do any of the dates anyway. I know R.Kelly is kicking himself for dropping Ne-Yo off the tour. We all know Ne-Yo is hot right now and Kel's felt threatned. But, to drop the dude and still end up paying is late as fuck. With that said, We say laugh right on to the bank Ne-Yo. Ca-Ching!!

The sexiness conveyed in the lyrics and shots in the video were intense. I love the interaction between Janet and Flex Alexander (ie: singer Shanice's husband). Race Symposium at UNCG

Hello All!!!

I know I have been away, but with school starting and the holiday weekend I needed a break to get it all together. But now that I have officially settled into the school/work routine I am back and better than ever.
As a Junior at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, I feel that I know a little bit about interesting things that go on in and around the Greensboro area. With that being said, as I was checking the university website (yes, I do this often...geek?? maybe)I came across an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in Greensboro's history on race. UNCG is offering a two day symposium (Sept 19-20) in Weatherspoon Art Museum that will focus on exploring race and history. The symposium is free to the public with parking also being free, and will offer panel discussion, open forums, and a documentary on a real FBI informant from Greensboro who infiltrated the KKK. I think this symposium will be a great learning experience for everyone no matter what race. Also from September 7th through December 21, the Weatherspoon Art Museum will be host an exhibit called; The 1960s: Decade of Change. This exhibit will showcase this pivotal decade in American history through all sorts of artistic mediums.
So there you have it two events to look forward to and hopefully I will see some of you sippers there.

Peace,

[R]eal [F]ashion [I]con

Fashion extraordinaire Andre 3000 stopped by TRL with John Legend to premiere the video for "Greenlight" off Legend's new album. Get into the safari feel of his outfit. Dating back to the mid-90's, Andre was one of the first men to break the barriers of fashion. From blond wigs to parachute pants, he exemplifies all the qualities of a Fashion Icon. He doesn't care what people think or how they feel about what he wears. And that's how a Fashion Connoisseur should feel. With that said, I say GO OFF ANDRE 3000.

who else would it be?

She Stings Again

She just continues to sting. Peep the October 2008 Cover of Marie Claire UK. From endorsements to movie roles to hit bearing albums Mrs Carter is the "It Women". I can't even begin to explain how I'll feel when Bey tips off the scene to begin a life with Mr. Carter. Kids with the white picket dream. I can see Bey and Hov pulling up their 80 million dollar home with their 2 children. Ahh that's the life. But from the looks of things (ie: fashion rocks, performances & the new album) that won't be for awhile. So we can breath for now.

C. Breezy

Either Ri-Ri dressed Chris or he realized that his outlandish outfits were not fashionable or by any means trendy. The saying "Simple is better" is so true when it comes to clothing. I think it just took Chris awhile to realize that. Nonetheless, I'm proud of him for throwing on the cardigan with a simple jean. I get lite life. Go Off C.Breezy!!

Beyonce Update

I haven't written about the INFAMOUS Beyonce in awhile so I thought today was the perfect day. Two things have surfaced in the news about Bey. First, there has been an unofficial announcement that The Carters (ie: Jay-Z & Beyonce) are considering doing a tour together. I posted awhile back about how that would be a great idea. Long behold it's now coming to the forefront. This would be GIGANTIC. To pack a concert arena with fans of Hov and Bey would be crazy. As i stated before I could only imagine how much the tickets would cost. But, the artistry that would take place on that stage would be phenomenal and worth the money. Being how secretive Hov and Bey are they probably won't announce until the last minute the tour. Just to keep it exclusive. But, that's the only way to do it. On another note there has been another a tidbit of news released on Beyonce's performance at Fashion Rocks via Beyonceworld.net. It has been said that the song she will be performing is NOT her first single and that she will be performing without any dancers. BET awards `07 much? It has also been said that it's not new material but, something that people have been waiting to see for awhile. Last, but not least it's been said that someone will appear on stage alongside Queen Bee. With the little bit of news that has surfaced I can only imagine what she will do when she graces that stage. When Beyonce performs, she MOTHAFUCKIN performs (excuse my language, that was my banjee side). Nonetheless, make sure you tune in Tuesday, September 9th to CBS to see how Mrs. Bee-Carter stings. I know i sure will.

A [R]eal i[CON]

I don't even know where to start. Jay-Z has crossed so many barriers in the Hip Hop game it makes no sense. From rapper to media mogul, Shawn Carter is the man many strive to be. With the world as his playground and the baddest chick in the game on his arm, How can life get any harder? It can't!! With that said, peep the new Rocawear Evolution ads. They give me grown man meets urban. Hov shows that it's okay to be a black man on your hustle. Be it in the streets or in the office. He's the first man to show thugs and business men that you can succeed. It may seem like an oxymoron but everyone isn't white collar. So I'm not going to even act like it. These ads have ran in magazines such as XXL, Vibe and even Complex. Hov keep cashing those multi-million dollar checks. I'm not mad at you!!

Throwback Tuesday

The Throwback Tuesday video is none other than Ms. Jackson. Get into the Janet era of red hair and sensuality. I loved this period of Janet's career because she was sexy but, not scandalous. She seemed so secure in her skin and it was so appealing. Velvet Rope is one of Janet's greatest albums and that's because of the sexuality she portrayed through the singles and videos released. I'm not as big a Janet fan as The Intellect but this one was one video I went up hard for. I love the breakdown dance sequence with the breast exposure at the end. Just like Janet to have those titties sitting pretty. I'm not mad at you Janet, GO OFF!
