Last night's episode of Project Runway was kind of a yawn. I go up for Heidi don't get me wrong but, the whole use the city as your muse concept was kind of out there. But, I must say I do appreciate the more artistic approach Heidi and the producers are going for. You know my top 3 favorites would be: DRUM ROLL.... Kenley (THE WINNER), Leanne and Terri. The colors of Kenley's design were immaculate, maybe it was the beautiful color of her model that brought it out. Leanne's layering ensemble was superb. It gave me couture fever! And, last but certainly not least, I love how Terri's design consisted of two very, versatile pieces. I like how her piece could be considered ready to wear. So, whereas the show was kind of a yawn. The outfits gave me L-I-F-E. Also, was it just me or was anybody else wondering why Sandra Bernhard was the guest judge? I didn't know she was a FASHION iCON or anything. If someone can send me her fashion history or resume I'd be overjoyed. Hmm maybe it's what The Intellect stated: "She is there for comic relief". Hmm maybe? Some Morning Man Bag

Where do i start with this picture? First off the bag was custom made by Hermes specifically for Pharrell, with Jacob encrusting the key chain. Secondly, it's "Haut A Courroie" the original Birkin bag. Pharrell won't go into detail on the price of the custom made bag. He merely states "that's tacky". He only discloses that it's price tag can be compared to that of a Mercedes. But, nonetheless he has 6 of this same bag in different colors. All i can say is it takes a real man to wear a Hermes bag and a purple one at that. But what am i saying? Pharrell is Pharrell. FAB at it's FINEST!! With that said, I'm out!

Throwback Thursday

It's about that time again. Throwback Thursday! This week has been dedicated to girl groups. This group popped onto the scene back in 1996. Some of their hits include "Steelo", "Where My Girls At" and "Get It Together". I like 702 because the fact they were sexy but, classy at the same time. They showed young females that it was alright to be empowering but at the same time feminine. Damn how i miss the old days of good music! Any who, get into 702 "Get It Together"

Something to Simmer On, Again

So as I was checking out my man B Wash's blog Just My Thoughts! (check it out for yourself it's a nice spot), one of his post really caught my attention and inspired me to recreate it but in a female perspective. So without further ado, I present my Ideal Man....

Appearance
~ Now if you know me I really don't discriminate, but there is something about a black man that I just love. So if I were to give it a hue, I guess I would have to say Caramel or darker (and I mean all the way to the end dark lol).
~ With my hair being short, I get it shaped up almost every week and I stay at the salon every two weeks. With that being said, having a jacked up shape up or bushy Locks/Braids is unacceptable!!!!
~ Posture must be straight and proper, to slouch is to convey that one is not confident in either their appearance or in what they are saying. Therefore, if you want a confident woman on your arm then you must present yourself as a confident man.
~ Saggin=the lamest and ugliest trend in men's fashion. I should not have to suffer and see your already too big pants falling below your narrow behind. Pull up your britches and then maybe I will address you
~ I would be remiss if I said that looks do not matter, they do and although you don't have to be the most handsome man in the world....if your teeth are messed up and yellow then PLEASE DO NOT GET IN MY FACE!!!!!

Intelligence
~ Conversation is KEY!!! If you can not start, hold, or finish one then you will not be able to handle me
~ I like to know what's going on around the world, so I would like it if my man knew the world beyond Sportscenter or what is fed to them through 15 second news spots on BET/MTV....pick up a newspaper or a news journal or if you like computers its all on the Internet for free!!
~ As an English major reading beyond the classroom is what I do. Do I expect that out of every man? Sadly, no. But I do expect for my man to have some knowledge of literature that was not assigned to them and that is not a monthly publication. To put it this way, a book with lots of chapters and no pictures!!
~ Be driven in all your endeavors, to succeed in whatever you wish to do and not settle for what is given to you.
~ Thug Life is not real life for a college educated man, leave the games/pick up lines at the door; only serious real man on their grown tip need apply

Style
~ Polo and jeans does not equal fashion sense; Please be able to successfully understand and execute business/professional, casual, and Sunday down time attire at the proper time and place.
~ It's 2008 it's time to have a signature scent, and Axe body spray does not count
~ If the shoes/jeans/shirt is a mess then you are letting me and the world know that you are not dressed to impress and therefore you are not working towards success.
~ Have confidence in your style choices--if you like urban wear then be the best dressed urban hipster you know. If you are in the professional world develop a signature style that is all your own and sets you apart (trust I will notice and so will your employer)

Personality
~ Sense of humor is great because who doesn't like to laugh and have someone they care about make them laugh
~ Sarcasm is good, but knowing how to take a sarcastic comment and not take offense is even better
~ Know when to Invade my space and also learn when to Vacate it.
~ Having a willingness to explore new cultures and art forms---I am a big fan of all types of music, I am getting into different styles of visual art, and as someone who danced for 15 years I will aways have a love/passion for the world of dance. So if you can only comprehend going to sporting events, the movies, or other places that are typical then it's time to get out more.

So this is what I have so far, I know there is more and I will probably update this post to reflect that but for the time being this is what I envision my ideal man being. So I ask the question, is this list asking to much out our men today? Should I have to downgrade my own standards to relate to yours or should I simply work to elevate your standards to match my own? These are the questions that many black women ask themselves, so what do you think?

My friend Kim, a junior fine arts major at Parsons' said it best: "New York is the city for everyone who's ever been outcasted or ridiculed for their creative flair". I find that statement correct. Things that may seen weird or different in another city are seen as artistic in New York. That's what makes it the City of Dreams. I must say I'm look forward to seeing the creations derived from this immaculate city. Keep your eye on Jerell, Korto, Leanne, Kelli and Kenley. Those are my favorites so far. Who know's what they may pull out their trendy sewing bags. Let's Get It designers.

Another 106 & Park Update: Just In

Terrance and Rocsi reunite via 106 & Park. I guess the two realized in order to keep their jobs they had to put aside their differences. I'm personally glad they got over their petty differences because we need to keep our black people on TV. So if we lost Terrance and Rocsi as bad as they are I'd still be sad. They are the only consistent black faces hosting a countdown show. I'm still waiting to see if BET can's Rocsi and Terrance at the end of the year like they did Aj & Free. 2 Brand New Episodes of Baldwin Hills Tonight!

BET is giving us what they should have with the premiere of Baldwin Hills: Two back to back episodes. The show started off slow but, now it seems the pace is picking up. Tune in tonight to see what happens when Gerren bumps into Lo'Rena. If Lo'Rena know's what is good for her she'll just pay Gerren bumping into her. Nonetheless Gerren and Seiko are my girls. This Just In: 106 & Park Drama Update!

Unless you've been sleeping under a rock, we've all heard the drama that has been going on with 106 & Park. If your late on the situation I'll sum it up a bit for you. About 2 weeks ago, Terrence and Rocsi were hosting 106 & Park when Terrence continuously ridiculed Rocsi on everything from her hosting skills to her speech. When they were breaking to commercial Rocsi walked off the stage in an up rage. For the past two weeks, they have both been hosting the show separately with stars such as Ashanti, Lil' Mama and Mario. Well, on a recent episode with Mario, Terrence sent Rocsi some flowers with an apology note. The note basically summed up how he went too far on that episode. He stated: "I realized what I said was foolish and I went to far." He also went on to say "Every good man needs a good woman by them". It takes a real man to apologize for their behavior or either one who really needs a job. Either way it was smart of him to apologize for his outlandish actions. After looking at this situation I kind of get publicity stunt to increase ratings. What do you all think? Nonetheless, I say bring Aj & Free back!! I know Terrence is an Aggie and all but, No talent is No talent.

Some Morning Man Bag

The Best thing about Fashion is that it's always changing and evolving. Take Jay-Z; Media Mogul, Entrepreneur, Rapper, I would even argue to say ICON! He has joined in the trend of `o8: The Manbag! The Man Bag dates back to pioneers of fashion such as Yves Saint Laurent and Marc Jacobs. When these fashion icons began carrying bags they encountered backlash for what some called a male purse. But, until recently has it become a trend among the hip hop community. I personally carry a man bag. As a young, collegiate man I feel book bags are outdated. They don't convey business. I'm not saying everyone has to run out and buy a gigantic man bag but, with the array of bags from messengers, totes to updated book bags there are more than enough to choose from. Now my question is raised: Because Hip Hop Icons like Jay-Z and Kanye West are now carrying Man Bags will they become acceptable? Our Chant For The Day: We Want Teedra!

If you've been sleeping under a rock or just been oblivious to real music you may not know who Teedra Moses is. But, if you don't know you better ask somebody. I'm not going to elaborate too much because she is coming back hard with hew new cd "The Young Lioness" which is going to speak for itself. Teedra is new R&B with a neo-soul touch. When she sings I get old soul with a new edge. As I sit here in anticipation, I'm anxiously awaiting her approach with this new album! Let's just hope it doesn't catch the Michelle Williams syndrome and get pushed back. Hopefully with this label change she will get correct promotion to catapult her career to new heights. Something to Simmer On

As I am sitting at my desk at work, I received an email from a former co worker. Usually her emails consist of funny facts or words of encouragement, but today the message contained a quote which was meant to provoke thought. The quote from Doug Larson was as follows:

For disappearing acts, it's hard to beat what happens to the eight hours supposedly left after eight of sleep and eight of work

And this got me thinking: What do we really do with our eight hours left? Granted, most people do not sleep a full eight hours and most of us work more/less than eight hours a day, but besides all that what do really do with our "free time"

With that being said I am going to sound real cliche and quote from one of my favorite movies (Dead Poets Soceity) and challenge everyone to Carpe Diem (Sieze the Day) and enjoy your eight hours. I know I will, well once I get off that is.

After seeing the video played on TRL and other various blogs I'm not impressed. I love Danity Kane, I really do. I feel that after the wait for this video that it should have been a MASTERPIECE but, I get mediocre. I must admit that I like how each girl portrays` a naughty persona but, that isn't enough. Yall are DK!! It's another one of those diddy productions. Hype`s us all up for their album but then he fails with promo and video. Nonetheless on a lighter note, I must say I adore the scene where Dr. Q is holding Dawn hostage. They give me early stage Bey & Hov. I know that's alot to give them so early but, they are REALLY cute together!! My question is Are they really together or is it a publicity stunt? Either way i can dig it. Who Knew Wax Figures Could Get Lace Front Wigs?

This is a pic a `la concreteloop of Tyra Bank's new wax figure from New York City’s Madame Tussauds Museum. I find it amusing that the sculpture looks just like Tyra and goes just as hard as she does. With that said get into her face, lace front wig and high cheek bones. With the great job they did on this figurine I know Tyra is somewhere smiling with her $35,000 dollar veneers.

Get Into America's Next Best Dance Crew!

First and Foremost, let's praise god for Lil' Mama taking off the ponytail/hat accessory she always seems to wear. Her stylist should be fired for allowing her to wear that late ass combo. Hopefully the producers realized how late her accessory was and required her to remove it. It was hilarious when Mario Lopez complimented her on her hair. He knew it was late boots too! Hell, where did she buy that? I've never seen an actual hat with a hole to pull a ponytail through! I'm a big ABDC fan. Last night, I was shocked when Supreme Soul and Super Crew were the bottom two groups. Both groups have continuously showed up and showed out (get into the Dani from America's Next Top Model quote). I was literally taken aback when Mario announced Supreme Soul was going home. But, as Mario and the judges stated: "It just goes to show that America needs to vote more, so we can keep the best crews here on this stage". I agree fully with that statement. I've never voted but, I know I'm the first one mad when any crew I like is placed in the bottom two. I also adore Fanny Pack. I hate retro clothing and accessories unless done by true vintage lovers but, FP goes hard with the fanny pack. By adding their element of retro to each performance it shows that it's not a phase for them but an actual lifestyle. Nonetheless, I was still wasn't pleased with their performance. It was very chaotic. Usually they bring their chaotic element but with a hint of cohesiveness but, not last night. Next week Fanny Pack should be placed in the bottom just so they will realize they need to come hardier or go home. Below i have posted performances from Fanny Pack, Supreme Soul and Super Crew. Do You Really Know What It Means To Be Black in America

I like many other people sat down and watched CNN's special on Black in America, and from the outset I felt that the special was lacking in many different areas. For one, I felt that the premiere episode should not have been split between the black family and black women. Yes, it is the black woman who is looked at as the glue in most black families to either play both mother and father or as that all knowing maternal figure (you know Granny Granny), but I still felt that to accurately portray both the black family and the black woman each topic deserved its own two hour block. I also felt a disconnect with the second part concerning black men. Although the special was able to get more in depth into the plight of the black man, it still only skimmed the surface of what it truly means to be a black man in this country.

Furthermore, when it looked as if O'Brien would actually get to the heart of any of the numerous topics that were discussed in the special a commercial break would always pop up or the special would simply move on to another topic. This made me wonder, why could this much hyped about special not provide more detail or even perhaps answers of what it means to be black in America? It was not until I really thought about what it means to me to be black in this country, that I realized there are no real answers to the question of "What it means to be Black in America." I came to this conclusion because my experiences in life are different than those around me. I grew up in a stable, college educated household, I lived in the suburbs of Maryland where when my local schools were deemed not up to par with my parents standards I was sent to one of the best private high schools in the Metro area, I am currently a Junior at a major university in North Carolina and I have an internship with the federal government. To some my life might be similar but to the majority of blacks in this country they can neither imagine nor comprehend my life.

So this made me wonder how others felt about their lives in this country. I come from an environment of support where nothing was denied me if I was willing to work for it, so I ask you the reader to enlighten me on what it means to you To Be Black in America.

National Hip-Hop Political Convention, Vegas Style

The third consecutive bi-annual Nation Hip-Hop Political Convention (NHHPC) confirmed that it will be hosted in Las Vegas August 1-3. With so much political frenzy over the past year, the convention will set a political agenda for the Hip-Hop community. Thousands of citizens, organizers, activist, and students are expected to attend.

A pre-convention titled “The State of Hip-Hop” will be held July 28-31.

It will feature a film showcase, concert, a academic symposium, and a Hip-Hop dance contest.

The main convention will feature celebrity guest speakers, panels, and workshops.

THROWBACK THURSDAYS

We call this new section Throwback Tuesday and Thursday. We started this particular section because there are so many great old school video's that aren't played anymore. I love new artist such as Estelle and Teyana Taylor because they are creating a new generation. But, think back to our younger BET years. I'm talking about Cita's World and Hits From The Streets. Those were popular shows that you knew you could watch and still see the hottest, new video out. BET has changed and went more mainstream now with the addition of sitcom shows to improve ratings. So, shows such as Cita's World have now been replaced by Hell Date. But what we're doing with Throwback Tuesday & Thursday is bringing those video's back to you. Every Tuesday and Thursday we are going to put up a throwback video. We want you as a You Got Tea viewer to come back on any day after both video's have been posted and vote for which video you liked best and why! We will then that following MONDAY post the video that won and the best comment from a viewer on why they liked that particular video up on the blog! I absolutely adored last night's episode of "Project Runway". The challenge was to produce an eco-friendly cocktail dress. Sounds easy enough Right? You know Ms. Heidi had to make it more challenging. The catch was that each contestant's model got to choose their fabric. Most of the contestants and models agreed on the fabric but Leanne. Leanne's model absolutely embarrassed her at judging when she expressed to the judges the dress wasn't exactly what she asked for. Nonetheless, Leanne is a great designer and her work speaks for itself. We all have slacker days right? Well atleast the weak do. Now on to the winner SUEDE!!


Suede's dress was excellent. He took common fabric and made it into a flirty cocktail dress that differed from everyone else's designs. Might we add Natalie Portman adored the dress also. Suede may be differentiating himself from the other's so they may want to watch out!! I must also say Jennifer's tangerine colored number was a fav of mine. The pairing of a bold color with a subtle color was great. The colors when displayed on the runway were DYNAMIC. Last, but definitely not least is Kienly. First, Kienly's clothes on the show are crazy. She gives me Dita Von Teese tease. If you haven't noticed get into her face and red lipstick. I love the way she took the simple gold fabric and gave it a couture touch with the high collar. I almost gagged when the judges asked Kienly about the couture touch. She nonchalantly stated: "I actually had to sew the collar on myself to make it couture". That was a bold but quirky, i love it kind of comment. Project Runway Season 5 is giving me LIFE right now. Let's keep up the good work Heidi. Why don't Heidi and Tyra just create a joint venture called "Models turned Moguls On Their Shit"! I'd go up for the company.

Nas along with a crowd of die hard fans protested outside of FOX NEWS headquarters in Manhattan NYC.

Nas handed out 600,000 petitions against Fox News. He goes into more detail about his feelings towards Fox News in his "Sly Fox" song from his UNTITLED album.



Protesters held up signs saying: “Fox News - Your Source For Racist Smears.”

Update: Nas' album Debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts selling 165,000 copies. Lil Wayne took the #2 spot selling 105,000.

Recently I wrote a post about the New Yorker's controversial cover concerning Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Now Vanity Fair has come out with its own cover spoofing presumptive Republican nominee John Mccain and his wife Cindy. In my opinion, the Vanity Fair cover does nothing to heighten the "fears" that the Democratic side have been displaying during the campaign season because in all actuality there are no real fears when it comes to John Mccain. Is Mccain old as dust? Yes. Is Mccain's wife a former pill popper with zero fashion sense? Yes. Does Mccain's policies reflect those of our current lame duck president (look up this term later)? Yes. Vanity Fair's try at highlightening the "fear tactics" of the Left Wing, only make the flaws of the Right Wing's man more obvious to the masses. Furthermore, since these character flaws of McCain and his wife are realities, instead of Right Wing conspiracy theories, the cover of Vanity Fair does achieve its intention of satirizing the presumptive Republican nominee.

RiRi Has Done It Again!!

Another summer and another EARWORM song from Rihanna has emerged. For those of you who do not know what an Earworm is, it is a song, jingle, commercial, etc that gets stuck in your head and never EVER wants to leave. Last summer RiRi infected the world with her hit song Umbrella (ella ella eh eh eh...anyway you get the point). Now she has struck again with her new song Disturbia.

Like last summer, I tried to resist the song and only played it when it happened to come up on my shuffle setting on my ipod. Now, I can't start my day without blasting it(with my windows rolled up tight) in my car and singing along at the top of my lungs. Will and Jada are the epitome of Black Love at it's finest. So everyone wonders "What keeps their relationship so strong"? There have been many articles discussing Will and Jada's open relationship, if any. Well the statement is correct. Will and Jada's open relationship is the key element to their lasting relationship. Will stated to The Insider: "Our perspective is, you don’t avoid what’s natural and you’re going to be attracted to people.“And if it came down to it, then one would say to the other: ‘Look, I need to have sex with somebody. Now, I’m not going to if you don’t approve of it.’” The agreement includes both knowing of the third party the other is having sex with. They both agreed on the open relationship from day one of their union. Will was also quoted as saying "SEX" is a key element to him and Jada's relationship. I agree with Will and Jada having an open relationship. If they have did it for 10+ years and are still going strong who cares? I personally don't agree with open relationships because I don't like to share mine. But, like they say "Different strokes for different folks". Brit gives it Up: 1 for K-Fed, 0 For Society

Say it isn't So Brit, Say it isn't so. Britney finally gave ex hubby K-fed aka dead beat now fab father full custody of their two children. "All parties have agreed to the following: Kevin will retain sole legal and physical custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James" . When the press release was sent out the court had not given it's final verdict on the decision but, from the reports of how good a dad K-fed is, more than likely it will work in his favor. I'm taken aback that even though Britney has been going through alot that she would give full custody to K-Fed. I hope she realizes once she gives fully custody to K-fed it's a hard action to reverse. Those damn lawyers have been brainwashing her. Hopefully, she is given him custody for awhile while she works on her revamping her image. With prayer from all us Britney fans maybe she will get back on her shit performance wise & mother wise. I think if she came back sicker than ever we'd all GAG!! I'm going to see if maybe i can contact urban outfitters or h&m and see about a "WE WANT BRITNEY BACK" t shirt. Nas Rocks New York Performance

Nas released his ninth album entitled "Untitled" last Tuesday. Nas performed to a packed crowd at Blender Theater at Gramercy Park. He opened to “N.*.*.*.*.R” followed by “Sly Fox” and "Hero" with surprise appearance Keri Hilson. Nas also brought back classics like The World is Yours, Oochie Wally, One Mic, Life’s a Bitch, Street Dreams, that really got the crowd out their seats. Jermaine Dupri, L.A. Reid and Mrs. Nas herself ... Kelis were among celebs who appeared at the Park. Nas put on a steller performance.



Following the concert, it was reported that thousands packed Virgin Megastore in New York for exclusive signings, and to see the man himself.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck a conservative white host on the view stated her point saying that when black people use the in word in private use it "it perpetuates stereotypes and hate". I walked onto the patio of the penthouse i currently reside at (a la` university village), and as I stood there taking in the great weather and great life i live, a song came into my head. Usher Reveals Baby Usher

So I'm in the grocery store and I came the cover of Essence magazine featuring Usher, and 9 month year old. He goes into a interview with author, and actor Hill Harper. Usher is giving us the opportunity to really get into his life. He talks about the challenges of marriage putting God first: ultimately being the best father he can be to his son Usher Raymond VI. Usher describes having a child as a extension on his marriage. Growing up without a father, Usher plans on being in his son's life fully. Men should accept their responsibilities as fathers, Usher says, and not let anything get in the way of being in their children's life. Usher missed out on knowing that he was accepted, and that he mattered ... he plans on giving baby Usher that chance.

Welcome to Project Runway Review, Each week after an episode of Project Runway premieres this is the location where you as a You Got Tea fan can let us know how you felt about the outfits, the contestants, judges and ultimately who was voted off.

Personally, I felt last night's episode was a great way to kick off the season. I must say first off my two favorites are Korto and Daniel. I love how Korto sticks to her roots' and uses elements from her heritage and culture. This day and time in fashion alot of people lose their niche when they are pressed to make a profit. But i must give the vote to Daniel when it actually comes to the challenge. He took blue cups which are usually used for drinking and made them into a little dress. I found that "INNOVATIVE" as my good friend Kimberly Sumner a student at THE NEW SCHOOL, NYC would say. Well, nonetheless I'm very excited about Project Runway this season and I look forward to seeing what else Heidi has up her high fashion sleeve for the rest of this season. Make sure you tune into Project Runway Wednesday at 9pm on Bravo!

Timbaland stated in a MTV visit that Jay-Z wants him to produce the whole album. "I'mma make it a classic too. You better believe it. It'll be a monster! Both are international platinum artist stretching from the East to Western Hemisphere. This maybe the most anticipated album in history.

The word around is that Rocsi who was embarassed on 106 and Park recenlty when Terrence J kept going on her. At first it seemed he was just being funny but it went from funny to just outladnishly rude. Sources close to BET say that Rocsi has taken a leave of abscence for the time being. It has also been said that they may be replacing both Rocsi and Terrence completely. I think that would answer everyone's prayers.

Two Premieres; Where's My Tux When I Need It?

Project Runway returns for it's fifth season, tonight at 9pm on Bravo! For those of you who have been living under a rock, Project Runway takes 16 up and coming designers, engages them in vigorous challenges with the last 3 showcasing their fashion line at New York Fashion Week, via Bryant Park. The winner of the show wins $100,000 to help start their own clothing line and a Saturn car and ultimately the notoriety to say you were the winner of "Project Runway Season 5"!!

I'm very excited about Project Runway this season. After last season's winner Christian "FIERCE" Siriano the contestants of this season have alot to live up to. In the past seasons of Project Runway they have never ceased to amaze from the amazing challenges to the very intellectual critiques giving to the contestants on how to improve themselves even after leaving the show. Even though I'm not interested in fashion in the concept of actually making my own clothes, I give props to people with the ability to make clothes out of cloth. That is an art in itself. With that said I give you SEASON 5 Of Project Runway:

Hit the Streets: Shoppin Frenzy!

So I'm driving down the highway listening to one of my favorite R&B artist(Raheem DeVaughn). It's mid-day not to humid, or hot the weather is perfect. A shoe commercial comes on the radio, DAYUM... Sorry Mom...



Goodbye interstate, I make sure my Visa pocket and I head to one of my favorite trendy boutiques. I stepping into the store and taking a whiff of the cotton and polyester ... it feels like heaven.




My mom calls me up on the phone. We discuss current events as I swipe my card (she'll get over it). Im sure some of you can relate. It's been about a week since I have added anything to my closet, being that people observe what I wear it began to stress me out!




On my way out I give the lady a business card labled YOUGOTTEA! Shout out to her! Lunch at Quiznos... Sammie, Oatmeal Raisin, coke on the side. I'm satisfied.

We Give You: Rulerz Of The Sandbox.

What do you get when you mix Sneakers, Skateboards and a Sick Beat? Besides, Pharrell you get New Artists fresh out of North Carolina: "Rulerz Of The Sandbox". The group consist of 3 talented artists: Frezh Prince, C-Nance and James Skywalker. What i find so innovative about these guys is that they are extremely original. We've been seeing alot of people come out with the whole 80's baby feel but, they are consistent with their persona. Let me add their fashion sense gives me 80's with a touch of street cred. They are bringing originality to Hip Hop in the South. Another interesting fact about "Rulerz Of The Sandbox" is that they have only been rapping together for one month and approximately two weeks. Might we add that they are catching the eye of tons of my space listeners,they already withhold 11197 song plays altogether. A quote from member Frezh Prince states: "We only want to be ourselves, sure we wear colorful skinny jeans and are die hard Pokemon, anime and comic book collectors. But, we are REAL, stating the fact in other artist music using "gun play" or killing our rhymes is a big NO! NO! We Rap about what we know and what we grew up on. Everything that comes from us is straight out the ziplock.. FRESH"! They are currently still looking for any producer who may be interested in working with them. They have one single out called "Sneakerhead" and a mix tape titled: "Death To All Posers". Exposure for these guys' range all the way to the UK ranging in London with FNF (Sug Sean) and in Germany (DJ Ice). So we're telling everyone from here to the UK be on the look out for Hip Hop's Future Rulerz Of The Sandbox.

The designers at Supra have decided to go with blk,gry,and red this go around for the shoe. I can definetly see myself strutin in these this summer and fall. What do ya'll think???

Keri Hilson`s NEW Video "ENERGY" is The TEA, Take a Sip!

I was browsing Facebook when I saw my boy Brandon Jacobs status' "Peep The New Keri Hilson Video". If you didn't know Keri Hilson is the blond bombshell featured on Timbaland's Hit "Way I Are" and more recently Nas' new single "Hero". I really liked Keri on "The Way I Are" because her vocals gave the track some zest opposite Timbaland's raspy voice. Some facts about Keri include that she's written for Ciara, Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige and Usher. So, she has to be good to have written for those big names right? But, with all the female artists out right now what is Keri going to bring different than artists such as Ashanti or Amerie?

Now this refers back to my boy Brandon's status. I go to www.youtube.com to watch the video for Keri's first single "Energy". The video is FIRE!! The song gives me a Tamia feel with the way her vocals float over the track. But, in the video she gives me full Keri with a hint of Ciara dancing and showcasing her body which is the T! I also like how her dance moves give the video a different feel without taking away from the lyrics. Maybe Keri can break out from her usual hook singing persona and branch into mainstream stardom. All i have to say is GO OFF KERI!!

ANOTHER IMPORTANT FACT I FOUND VIA WIKIPEDIA.COM WAS THAT KERI WAS SUPPOSE TO BE FEATURED IN THE "LOVE IN THE CLUB" REMIX BUT WAS REPLACED BY BEYONCE SO THAT THE SINGLE COULD GAIN MORE EXPOSURE. I GUESS AS A FORM OF CONSOLATION THEY LET HER APPEAR IN THE VIDEO!! STILL KERI EXPOSURE = BUILDING YOUR CAREER. SO I SAY GO OFF.

When [tEa] Goes Bad....It Leaves A [bAd] Taste

Okay so while I have been in the DMV enjoying my vacation, I happen across this picture of the New Yoker front cover. Now as an avid supporter of Obama and a lover of anything Michelle Obama I was both sadden and disgusted by this cover. However, after a closer inspection of what the New Yorker was trying to do with this picture and the hidden messages behind the picture, I am now a firm believer in a picture being worth a thousand words.
At first glance all you see is Barack in traditional Muslim garb and Michelle with a "nappy" curl and army pants giving each other the now infamous "fist bump." Not to end the insulting depictions to just Barack and his wife, the background features a picture of Osama Bin Laden and a burning American flag.

The artwork, done by Barry Blitt, is in essence the perfect political caricature to showcase what the actual article in the magazine is about. The article, entitled "The Politics of Fear", talks about all the outrageous allegations and scare tactics the political right wing have used to draw fear towards the Obama campaign. Whether it has been painting him as a "closeted Muslim," interpreting the fist bump as a gang sign, or remarking on the similarities between Barack’s name with the World’s Most Wanted Man, right wing republicans have used fear to stop the Man of Destiny. Although now I can see where this picture is coming from, I do not agree that it should have been the cover. In a time when change is happening like it has never done before, there are still sensitivities that I feel even the media should take in to account. With that being said I will be reading this article and I hope that you will do the same.

Danity Kane & Day 26 = Bad Boy Re Vamp

If you didn't know the whole Bad Boy Roster has been out on the west coast performing. The tour is titled Making The Band 4: The Tour. The roster includes the wonderful Danity Kane, Day 26, Donnie, Diddy (occasionally) and cough! cough! flop Cheri Dennis. Even though i did like her song Portrait of Love she hasn't impressed me fully. There has been no press release on why the tour was only on the West Coast But, can someone shoot an email to diddy and get the crew to hit up the East Coast. I must admit I wasn't always a fan of Danity Kane but after the release of their album "Welcome To The Doll House" I was impressed by the growth the album showed. Some of my favorite songs include "Striptease", "Sucka For Love" and the first single released from Dollhouse: "Damaged". This time around the girls came with this nonchalant sexiness about themselves that was seen throughout the lyrics and videos that have been released from the album. Now Day 26 on the other hand, I wasn't impressed with their first video "Got Me Going". Now, don't get me wrong i loved the show but, the first "Got Me Going" single gave me old 112 meets One Chance. Now i guess Day 26 said let's make em gag with their second video "Since You've Been Gone". I like the way the video flows with the song while showcasing each member of the group equally. I also can't help but be infatuated with the steamy scene between love birds Q & Dawn (go off Dawn, your HOT)!! I've peeped clips of the tour and from what I've seen they have been burning up the stage. Danity Kane brings the sexiness and dance moves, Day 26 brings that boy band element, Donnie grabs the young teeny boopers & Cheri Dennis allows time for people to get to their seats. Maybe if we petition the tour will come to the East Coast. Until then we'll just have to watch the videos on you tube.

What's All The Hype? Nas Album Release!

We all want to know, What's all the hype about Nas 9th Album "Untitled"? The wait is over, after being under wraps, and a pushed backed release date, Nas single drops tomorrow 7-15-08. Nas is no half stepping artist he comes hard, if your into hip-hop I can assure you won't be disappointed.

The original album title "Nigger". Def Jam supported Nas 100% on the former name BUT he came under fire by the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and the NAACP. Wal-Mart even threatened not to sale the album in stores! Be serious.

Nas' first official single off the album is "Hero" featuring the beautiful Keri Hilson, and produced by Polow da Don. The single gives you a feel of the controversy surrounding the album.



Nas released a mixtape with DJ Green Lantern titled The Nigger Tape on June 9, 2008. Check out his interview with DJ Envy as Nas Talks about Kelis, 50, Prodigy, Ether 2, and The word "Nigger"

The Hills + A Hint Of Hood = Baldwin Hills

Baldwin Hills is back and better than ever. With a brand new set of cast members that includes Aunjel & Lor'Rena a.k.a The Ghetto Twins, Jonathan The All American, Justin The Pretty Boy Bad Boy who has turned his life around and Seiko the blackanese girl with the sick scarf swag peep episode 1 if you don't know. We can't forget our favorites from last season; Gerren the "mini- Naomi", Ashley better known as Ms. Spelman, Moriah the quote on quote playboy, Sal who use to hold the bad boy title and of course Stacie,every one's favorite hood/glam girl. Baldwin Hills is back and definitely sizzling. I feel that this season the characters are a bit more cohesive. Last year they were trying to figure out how to adapt to being black socialites but, this time around they have a better grasp on being F-A-B! Some friends and I were watching the first episode and they felt it was mediocre. BET could have came a bit harder with the first episode and made it an hour long instead of 30 minutes. After last season Baldwin Hills has to have a slight fan base where they should have been allowed an hour. I also felt like they spent alot of time talking about Jonathan and Kirk Franklin (tell me if i wasn't the only one who found it weird he was on the show after the whole porno thingy)! My friends and I discussed how The Hills compares to Baldwin Hills. I, personally like Baldwin Hills better because as an African American male of a middle class family there are certain topics & issues brought up that I can fully relate to in comparison to The Hills. I've watched The Hills and this is definitely no shade but there was never nothing that I could relate to. Now, The Intellect on the other hand she goes up for Lauren & Audrina which is understandable as a FAB black socialite. But, as a fashion conscious black male who loves different aspects of media I wish there were more interesting topics, besides who Brody is talking to this week. But, nonetheless both "Baldwin Hills" & "The Hills" gives both middle/upper class Black and White families the opportunity to see our generation in a different light besides the usual smoking and excessive drinking. In a time period where everything is switching from what use to be sitcom era to reality TV frenzy these are two shows that are on DEFINITELY on the rise.

According To The Paris Associated Press: Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by Caesarean section on Saturday night. Knox weighed just over 5pounds and Vivienne 5 pounds. Pitt was there during the operation, said the doctor, who delivered the twins at the seaside Lenval hospital in Nice in southern France. Jolie is expected to stay in the hospital for a few more days. The doctor said he believed the baby girl's middle name was chosen in honor of Jolie's mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, who died in January 2007 after a 7 1/2-year battle with cancer.

Jolie and Pitt already have four children: Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2.

The first photos of the new twins are expected to fetch millions of dollars!!

I find it funny how we have people in poverty and barely paying their bills but some are receving millions for pictures of some bald, alien looking, white babies. Hopefully the pics won't be all the hype like JLO & Marc and we as American's become disappointed when we see the babies. Stay tuned and as soon as the pics are posted You Got Tea will post them.

Janet Jackson & Jermaine Dupri
I'd call J&J "The Underdogs". At first alot of people found it weird that a mega star like Janet Jackson was attracted to pint sized Jermaine but as time evolved they've became that UnderDog couple we love to hate. The two have been together since 2002. Janet who has been in the music game for 20+ years is always coming back and reinventing herself with every album. She has been called the Black Madonna. Jermaine who is a more behind the scenes type guy has produced for artist such as Madonna, Xscape, Jagged Edge and more recently his girlfriend's new album Discpline. On top of that he is the CEO, Founder & President of his own record label So So Def Records. At first this couple suffered alot of scrunity for their relationship but, they are now a modern day couple we love to see!

David & Victoria Beckham
I title this couple "The Elite Elegant" No matter where they are seen they always have this edgy, elegant glow to them. Victoria and David started dating in 1997 when a mutual friend introduced Victoria to David by her request. The couple became engaged in 1998 which is the same time they acquired the name "Posh and Becks". The two have 3 children: Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. The Beckham's were always acknowledged by American's when they were in England but, when they made the big move to California we fully gave them the title as "The Hottest International Couple". The two are always seen out on the town done up & looking like a new couple on the scene which is hot! This is one black tie couple who will continue to make us applaude.

Now i title this couple "The OO7 Couple" because everything with them is top secret. There has never been a set date for when this couple started dating but some have credited the video for Jay-Z's 2003 Hit "Bonnie & Clyde" as the beginning of their relationship. If you can remember that particular video, not only was it the first time we actually saw the two fully interact but, the passion they displayed as they almost kissed it drove everyone wild. Even though we all want to know what is going on in their relationship that is what makes them such a great couple. The fact they give us a bit but, as soon as they feel we've had enough it's TOP SECRET again! On April 4, 2008 People magazine reported that the two had a marriage ceremony. But, reps for neither Bey or Hov confirmed the union so i guess we'll just have to deal with the 007 theme until they give us a bit more. No matter married or not they are the epitomy of what we all should strive for in a realtionship: BEAUTY, STREET CRED & a GIGANTIC BANK ACCOUNT! I get my Life.


Will & Jada Smith
This wife and husband duo would have to be titeld "In For The Long Run". Married in December of 1997 Will and Jada have been a portrait of black love at it's finest. Whenever you see W & J out they are always smiling, laughing and enjoying life. That plays a major part in why they have remained tight over the past 11 years. They have been quoted as sayin they are in a open relationship but who give's a fuck! If they are or not? 11 years is a long ass time for HollyWEIRD. They have 3 children: Jaden, Willard and Willow. They are frequently seen attending film openings as a strong, black family which gives us all hope.I admire, look up and want to achieve what they have kept so strong in what can be the hardest lifestyle to keep a marriage afloat. If Will and Jada ever break up i'm pushing off marriage until i'm in my 50's.


Barack & Michelle Obama
It would only be right if this couple was titled "The Prestigous" Michelle and Barack met when they were the only two African Americans at their law firm and she was assigned to mentor him while he was a summer associate. Their relationship started with a business lunch and then a community organization meeting where he first impressed her. The couple's first date was to the Spike Lee movie Do the Right Thing. The couple married in October 1992. They have two daughters, Malia Ann (born 1998) and Natasha (known as Sasha) (born 2001).Throughout her husband's 2008 campaign for President of the United States, she has made a "commitment to be away overnight only once a week — to campaign only two days a week and be home by the end of the second day" for their two children. Now that is what you call a real women. Taking the time to campaign with her man while taking care of home also. That makes me think of an infamous quote from B's Upgrade You "Taking care of home & Still Fly, That's A Good Look"!! That's what Michelle would says to Barack everytime he steps out of line to get him back in his place HAHA! Everyone say Hello to our first black family to move into the White House.

The Masculinity Of The Man Bag

The topic I'm going to speak on is what the media calls the MAN-BAG or MURSE. According to Wikipedia the Man bag is classified as a fashionable bag carried by a man. There has been a huge debate with the masculinity of a man carry what at first glance resembles a purse. Hence the word murse which is a combination of man and purse.

Disclaimer: This is by no way meant to disrespect anyone but take a minute and digest what I'm going to say.

It's 2008. We're living during a period where a woman and black man both ran for the nomination of president ( WOOP! WOOP! BARACK for the nomination ultimately). But the reason I bring up the presidential election is because we're living in a period of change. So by men not being able to grasp new trends in fashion it just shows we're not ready for change. We as Black Americans say we're ready for a black man to come into office and make change. But, yet we're taken a back when someone is carrying something besides a black east pack book bag. I'm not saying everyone should run out and buy a man bag but, at the same time respect someone else who may feel that it's a great accessory to carry instead of a book bag.

I, personally carry handbags and totes because book bags weigh my back down. I don't like the fact that i may start class at 11 and not finish until 3 and have a horrible back ache on top of that. Secondly, think about that one day when you have to dress up nice for that presentation you have in class! Who wants to walk on campus in a nice 3 piece suit, vest & slack ensemble with a book bag on? I'm just stating "If you want to present a persona of business a book bag isn't the best accessory". I think we will never fully be able to make everyone change from east pack to hermes but that is what fashion is; everyone having their own mindset and opinion.

After reading this post the next time you see a messenger bag in GAP, a tote in EXPRESS/H&M or an exquisite Louis Vuitton vintage book bag on Canal St. in NY (HAHA!) think how maybe this one accessory change could enhance your swag!!
